Nursery newbie

It’s now less than a month to go before N starts at day nursery as I go back to work then.  I had a bit of a panic when I realised I’d not heard anything since sending off my cheque & registration form for him, then when I phoned they said they’d not got details for him…luckily my cheque had been paid in and his name was found.  Phew, not what I wanted to hear just before him starting.

He’s going to go there 2 1/2 days a week, with the other 2 at my sister in laws, so I think he’ll get the best of both worlds.  When he’s up the road at my sister-in-laws house, he’ll get to play with his 3 year old cousin, see his dad at mealtimes etc, and when he’s old enough to go on the tractor and in the pick up, he’ll be able to ride round on jobs with dad.  But then, he’ll also get the structure at nursery, and get used to being with other non-family children.

The nursery he’s going to is quite outdoors based as it has a tree house/forest school so being a farmer’s son, hopefully he’ll feel at home there.

This week were his first two settling in sessions.  I was there in the room with him for the first, although he was quite happy to crawl off with the other children and the workers to play without me.  And he was in his element at snack time….raisins & breadsticks.   The second session I left him and sat in the office watching him on the cctv system.  He had a great time.  The only time he winged a bit was when another child had a bottle of milk and he didn’t…but he’s always like that as he always wants milk, even when he doesn’t need it.

So two successful sessions, only one to go where he’ll have lunch there.  The only other bit I think may cause an issue is naptime.  At home he usually has two, although this week I’ve not put him down for a morning one and he’s been a little tired (sleeping in the car if we’re out at that time), but has been able to go til after lunch.  So I’m hoping that once he’s at nursery, he’ll be so tired after a morning of playing, that he’ll just flake out afterwards with no problems.

I’m not too worried about leaving him (apart from obviously missing him while I’m at work), as he’s a pretty sociable little boy and he liked the workers there.  Hopefully he’ll not get too clingy on the other days, although he’ll be one day there, one day off, so not several days on the trot.  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens when he starts properly.

Here’s a recent picture of him…now 11 months old
