Biting toddlers

Does your toddler have bad habits like biting?

N doesn’t bite.  On occasions when he’s playing he might go to hit me, but so far I’ve been able to just tell him that ‘hitting’ not nice, it hurts people, and that he shouldn’t do it.  I ask for an apology…he knows when he’s done something wrong so will hide his face and close his eyes as though in shame.  Takes a while, but he’ll usually say sorry once he’s realised he won’t need to get yelled at if he apologises.

But biting can be quite prevalent amongst toddlers and older babies.  I came across this article the other day, and I think much of the advice can be transferred to any type of unwanted behaviour that a child can be prone to.

Personally, I’m not sure that I’d want to transfer the biting onto something else, but I guess with a teething baby or child who needed pressure on their teeth, then it might be worth trying.

What are your thoughts?  Did you baby or toddlers go through a biting phase?

  1. Yes, Mayhem bites quite often, usually his big brother. It’s a real issue, however the reason he bites is…big brother did it to him and now we have finally drilled in to Chaos that biting is for babies and he stopped – small decides to copy him. can’t quite decide if its karma or not. i found tho that big brother only started doing it when someone bit him. They will stop by 15 right?
