Review and Giveaway: Kelo-cote® scar reduction treatment

Having had an unplanned c-section with N, I’ve obviously got a scar.  I was lucky enough to have one of the best surgeons at doing the op in the area according to a few people I spoke to, and considering N’s size, it was a relatively small cut.  The scar was never really bumpy as some people’s are, and the actual scar has faded really well (to be expected after 2 years, but it faded really quickly).

But I was interested to try out the Kelo-cote® scar gel I was sent to see what would happen to my scar.  I also have a leg ‘scar’ or gouge that is a different colour to my leg from a trip a few years ago, so I’ll be trying the gel on that as well.

I’m only a couple of days in, but compared to other branded scar oils this is definitely much thicker and easier to put on.  I find with the oils they just run off, but with this you rub it over the scar.  It does feel thick and although it’s not greasy, it doesn’t seem to soak into the skin but just sit on top as it dries.  It will be interesting to see how it improves the appearance after a few weeks.

Kelo-cote® is a clinically proven silicone gel, used with the aim of reducing scars, with best results seen after 3 months.  You can use it on new or old scars – any type of scar can benefit.  After it’s applied, it dries like a top layer of skin to protect the underlying layers of skin, protecting the scar area as it heals.  It’s benefits include:

  • odourless and transparent
  • suitable for use on children, pregnant women, and sensitive skin
  • can be used on scars from c-sections, burns, wounds etc
  • easy to use, twice daily application recommended
  • wide usage in the NHS for burns treatment
  • can be used as soon as stitches have been removed and wound is closed.

It’s available in several different options and formats: spray, gels x2 sizes and a UV protection version.  All can be purchased from www.kelo-cote.co.uk.

  1. I have a big keloid scar on my shoulder as a result of planned surgery getting infected and needing further surgery. Its red still 4 years down the line, and obvious unless I wear t-shirts even on hot days, which I’d prefer to wear vest tops. I also have stretch marks on my stomach and hips, so would like to try it on all them too.

  2. on stretch marks and other scarring – i wish i had had something like this when i was badly scalded as a toddler

  3. As suffer from keloid scarring I would use it on my scars and I’ve just lost over 10 stone so would use it on my stretch marks too :)

  4. I had my colon removed – and whilst scar cream won’t heal everything it’ll start to make things better.

  5. My daughter is in the process of having a large birthmark on her leg removed (we’ve had 2 out of 4 operations so far)- we’d love to try this to minimise her scar tissue.

  6. My best friend had skin cancer when she was 15 and has a large scar on her back she is very paranoid of. I would give it to her x

  7. I have a large scar than runs from the top of my neck to straight down to nearly the base of my spine. I would use it there so I could feel more confident in the summer and wear summery tops.

  8. Both my daughters have recently had babies. One has a bad C-section scar so I would give her the scar treatment, while my other poor girl is covered in stretchmarks, which a year on still look angry and red, so I would give her the stretchmark treatment :) x

  9. I would use it to help surgery scars as they really are ugly and they make me feel more self-conscious about them. Also stretch marks and scars from teen acne.

  10. I have been using Bio Oil for 18mths on a scar which is still red and angry looking. I would love to try this and see if I can get better results with it.

  11. Having Nodular Prurigo all over my body after the birth of my son for more than 2 years, I have scars all over from the damage it inflicted to my skin from the consistence itching and bleeding so I would love to try this product, feel really embarrassed as the scars are so noticeable and with summer on the way, I hope!! this would come at a great time, so would love to win.

  12. I would use this on my right thumb as unfortunately I have one very fresh scar from a deep laceration caused by a picture frame breaking and directly underneath an older scar where a pot I was cleaning shattered and sliced through my tendons…..making for one ugly thumb!

  13. I would give some of it to my sister for her c-section scar and the rest i would use on my operation scars and stretch marks.

  14. I have two big scars on my leg from having a bone tumour removed in 2009, I asked from Kelo-Cote on Prescription but my doctor won’t prescribe it as it costs the NHS a lot of money.
I would love to win this prize to help fade my scars.
