Pretty stationery and Away in my Aeroplane

Today’s post is a post of two halves. Pretty stationery for the girls and aeroplane picture books for the children.

As a Parragon book buddy we usually receive picture books to review, but Parragon Books have just launched a stationery range, and this month I received one of their notebooks and little sticky notes set. I’m a big stationery fan (who isn’t?!) and have a little stash of notebooks that are gorgeous but just waiting to be written in.

The notebook and sticky notes have a shabby chic vintage feel to them. The theme is travel, with the pastel colour scheme reflecting images like hot air balloons, with the Eiffel Tower inside. I love the muted colours, although I’d rather have cream or white paper inside to write on, rather than pink. It could be a great notebook for journaling a holiday. My only issue is that being a left-hander, I struggle to write in notebooks that aren’t spiral bound as my hand can’t get into the middle.

The sticky notes come in a tin, 450+ little notes. Perfect for a quick note to stick on the fridge or if you want to add sweet romantic stickies in a loved one’s lunchbox.

Away in my Aeroplane

Last month’s book (yes, I’m a bit behind with my book posts. We have still been reading picture books, I’ve just had too many posts to write and not enough time!) is another picture book, called Away in my Aeroplane. I thought being about aeroplanes and less of a ‘girlie’ book (N seems to enjoy books with boys in more than those with girls), then N might enjoy this one. But every time I’ve suggested we read it, he’s turned his nose up and has requested another one.

We have managed to read it a couple of times. It’s a bit like a little boy’s dream where he’s flying his plane through the sun and rain, racing birds before coming back down to earth to his home and family.

The words are rhyming which makes it easy to recall them, and the illustrations go from light to dark as you go from one page to another, and one weather pattern to the next. We don’t tend to talk about things we’re reading as we go along, but if you do then there’s birds, vehicles and weather to discuss as you read.

I have to admit, I’m with N on this one. It’s not really our cup of tea as it doesn’t really go anywhere, or have a particular plot. It’s just a kid riding in his plane back and forth. Maybe it’s better for younger children. I also struggle with reading the black text on the darker illustrations. We tend to read stories with the light off at the moment, but there’s no chance of me reading this book without a light on.

If you’ve got a plane fanatic, this might be the picture book for you. Away in my Aeroplane is written by Margaret Wise Brown.
