Signs of spring – my joys of spring

I’ve shared previously what I love about autumn and winter, but spring seems to make everything hopeful.  Instagram goes mad for it, people shake off their coats (we hope) and get thinking about summer.  So here’s my take on the joys of spring, through the season:

Joys of spring - Bubbablue and me

My signs of spring

  • Lighter evenings
  • Spotting the first newborn lambs in the field
  • Blossom on the trees
  • Leaves emerging to take away the bareness
  • The first cut of the grass
  • Gorgeous sunsets
  • Daffodils and crocuses
  • Seasonal spring flower bouquets – tulips
  • Lambs gambolling in the fields
  • Bare legs and feet rather than having to wear socks or tights
  • Swapping slippers for flip flops
  • Planning holidays
  • Coming out of hibernation to go on days out
  • Freshness of April showers
  • Magnolia trees unfurling
  • People’s moods lift with the warmer weather
  • Double digit temperatures
  • Lighter coats
  • Putting away hats
  • Getting out the birkenstocks
  • Painted toe nails
  • Healthier eating via Lent challenges
  • Cadbury Mini Eggs
  • Lighter jumpers
  • No coats
  • New calves being turned into our field behind
  • Mother’s Day (I live in hope I’ll have a card and present that isn’t a plant I’ll kill!)
  • Bank holidays galore
  • Easter and an excuse to get all the family together
  • Easter egg hunts
  • Granny’s lemon easter cake
  • Easter turkey dinner
  • Believing that salads are suitable for eating
  • The first barbecue (maybe)
  • Wanting to de-clutter
  • National Trust properties re-open
  • Hearing the birds sing in the mornings and evenings
  • Bike rides and scooting
  • Blue skies
  • Seeing the sun more regularly
  • Thinking about (and having) picnics
  • Fewer cars on the roads as more people walk and cycle
  • Turning the heating off
  • Bluebells on the grass verges
  • Paddling pool at the park opens
  • The outdoor pool (just about) opens
  • 2 family birthdays on the same day
  • May day celebrations
  • Village festivals kick off

  1. Oh, I’m so jealous that you have baby lambs nearby! The cherry blossoms are blooming in my front yard, but I went downtown to the National Arboretum (I live just outside of DC) to see the cherry blossoms the other day and they hadn’t bloomed yet! Boo! Spring is always crazy in this part of the country, and the boomerang weather has delayed the cherry blossoms.

    1. I still haven’t seen the lambs yet. But we do have a lovely little calf in the field behind who’s been put onto a carsarean cow who lost her calf.

  2. Hooray for Spring – especially the lighter evenings. There’s something very encouraging about seeing all the plants sprouting back to life. I love your list and it’s made me excited for Spring! #brilliantblogposts
