Dunston Hall hotel – family friendly break

family friendly stay at Dunston Hall Hotel - Bubbablue and me (1)

I love going away. Home is great, but I much prefer getting out and about.  And feeling like you’ve really had a good break.  Even more so now we have N, because if we stay at home, holidays would be spent with him going out on the farm.  Our latest break was a last minute choice (as usual) to Norfolk. When it’s just N and myself going on holiday we tend to stay in hotels rather than cottages or B&Bs.… Continue Reading “Dunston Hall hotel – family friendly break”

Lambourn open day – meet the horses family fun

Meeting horses at Lambourn open day - Bubbablue and me

As a child I loved horses and always wanted to learn to ride. But my ballet teacher put her foot down – no riding if I was learning ballet with her. So instead I would read every book possible and visit local horses to see them.  So when I was introduced to Lambourn Open Day and offered tickets to the event by In The Paddock, I was keen to have a look and introduce N to horses close up. Our… Continue Reading “Lambourn open day – meet the horses family fun”

Easter Egg hunt at Upton House

Easter egg hunt at Upton House- Bubbablue and me

It’s been a while since I’ve been to our nearby National Trust property, Upton House. And a few years since I took N for a Cadbury easter egg hunt there. The first time we took N’s youngest cousin with us, and this time we invited him along too.  At 8 he’s still willing to look for Easter eggs, and he and N always love being out and about together. With my family membership I could get the nephew in too,… Continue Reading “Easter Egg hunt at Upton House”

Mums lunch and Bodleian library tour

Exploring books at Bodleian Library Oxford - Bubbablue and me

It’s not often as a mum we get to take time off to relax away from our children. Actually I don’t do too badly, mainly because I work, but also unless I organise for us to go out, N just wants to spend all day out on the farm. But to actually spend the day out with a friend doesn’t happen much.  But I had a flexi day recently and arranged to meet up with a friend and go to… Continue Reading “Mums lunch and Bodleian library tour”

Cotswold Wildlife park rough and tumble with friends

Cotswold Wildlife Park zebras - Bubbablue and me

April has to be one of the best months. It’s the start of (hopefully) more consistently good weather, and this weekend was certainly a great start to the month.  With 20C both days, we were lucky in that we’d already agreed to meet up with friends and go out for the day. So it was lining up to be a great day outdoors.  Picnics at the ready, we picked them up and headed off to an old favourite Cotswold Wildlife… Continue Reading “Cotswold Wildlife park rough and tumble with friends”

Camping essentials you wouldn’t always expect

the unusual camping essentials you sholdn't forget to pack - Bubbablue and me

I’m a big list person.  Without them I’d forgot a lot, so going on holiday definitely needs a list.  But going camping for the first time in years, I was initially a bit stumped on what equipment I’d need. Beforehand, I asked around work colleagues who were camping fans, and had a search online.  Tents were a nightmare to choose because there were so many, and all the reviews were different.  There weren’t that many helpful guides on what you… Continue Reading “Camping essentials you wouldn’t always expect”

Family fun with Geronimo Festival – giveaway

Justin Fletcher at Geronimo festival

Last year we experienced the family fun that was Geronimo Festival.  It was a beautiful day, and spending it at a children’s festival was perfect for N and my godson.  They had a ball and it was great to see them enjoying everything.   This year Geronimo is being held at Arley Hall in Cheshire on 27-29th May.  It’s a great opportunity to get outside with the children over the bank holiday weekend. The entertainment is all targeted at children. So… Continue Reading “Family fun with Geronimo Festival – giveaway”

Helping kids have broader life experiences – trip to Blenheim Palace

Broader life experiences and a day trip to Blenheim Palace - Bubbablue and me

I’ve said it before, if N could stay on the farm all the time helping out he would. He’d be quite happy trailing his dad around, or his uncle.  And apart from wanting to go on holidays, he would happily forego any days out with me.  Obviously this makes me sad.  I don’t get to spend much time with him as it is being at work and with school, so weekends are precious.  But more than that I want him… Continue Reading “Helping kids have broader life experiences – trip to Blenheim Palace”

An unplanned playground visit for Mother’s Day

We seem to be getting to know parks near us really well.  N loves them, and is putting his foot down about simply going to the park rather than to somewhere with more to see and do.  For Mother’s Day, I’d suggested we go to Blenheim – no.  Then somewhere in Stratford – no.  But the park in Stratford upon Avon was requested instead. With a promise of lunch out and an ice cream, N was in agreement that he… Continue Reading “An unplanned playground visit for Mother’s Day”

Kite flying and nest building – kite giveaway

Get kids outdoors with kite flying and nest building - Bubbabue and me

There are some great benefits to living where we do. The view. Living close to family. Plenty of space for N to play in. The downside is that it’s pretty breezy because there’s no shelter from other houses or hedges etc. The bonus of that of course, is that it’s great for flying kites.  When I say kites, I mean easy light ones, not massive stunt kites.  I think we’d have to go up our hills to use those. We… Continue Reading “Kite flying and nest building – kite giveaway”
