Mediterranean courgettes recipe

Mediterranean courgettes - Bubbablue and me (1)

I was never a fan of courgette as a child, and even now I’m not keen if it’s overcooked.  Having it spiralised as courgette is delicious though and I’ll happily eat away on that raw with my bolognese. But my favourite way of cooking it has to be my Mediterranean courgettes bake.  Adding tomato, cheese and herbs has to be divine.  Even the OH likes it and he always moans about my cooking (it’s actually pretty good, it’s just he… Continue Reading “Mediterranean courgettes recipe”

Mexican lasagne – great for family or friends

Mexican style lasagne - Bubbabue and me

I’m a big Mexican food fan, but it’s quite hard to come by if you’re eating out.  But with a fussy OH (he’ll not eat indian, chinese, thai, risotto), I tend to stick to fajitas which he and N will eat.  Well, N eats a wrap with cheese in, chicken on the side, raw peppers and no sour cream or guacamole.  I’m hoping he’ll get more with the standard fajita programme if I keep feeding it to him enough.  But… Continue Reading “Mexican lasagne – great for family or friends”

Boozy cherry bakewell custard pudding

boozy cherry bakewell custard pudding - Bubbablue and me

Whenever I get asked to make a pudding for something I’ve usually done Nigella’s trashy lime cheesecake.  It’s failsafe, and everyone seems to love it. But when we go to friends’ houses with puddings, there’s always other lime puddings or cheesecakes. The same with my back up pavlovas or gooey chocolate brownies.  But a couple of years ago at Christmas I discovered this Boozy cherry bakewell custard pudding.  It was made as an alternative to christmas pudding, and went down… Continue Reading “Boozy cherry bakewell custard pudding”

Make the smoothest easy chocolate mousse

Make the smoothest chocolate mousse - Bubbablue and me

I love chocolate puddings. Ok I just love chocolate.  But chocolate puddings can be pretty good. I always used to think that making chocolate desserts was going to be complicated (and expensive).  Some are complex and take ages.  And some can be really expensive if you’re using a lot of chocolate. Especially if you opt for decent quality chocolate.  I’m not a chocolate snob (I used to work for Cadbury so I’ll happily scoff a lot of Dairy Milk), but… Continue Reading “Make the smoothest easy chocolate mousse”

Eating out with children in Lyndhurst New Forest

Eating out with children Lyndhurst New Forest - Bubbablue and me

I love eating out and going out and going on holiday in the UK. We usually do bed and breakfast which means eating out every night. Annoyingly, despite N being a good eater, I daren’t spend money on more adventurous cuisines in case he won’t eat them. He gripes about the indian and chinese foods at school, and his version of chicken fajitas excludes guacamole and sour cream so when we were away for a few days in the New… Continue Reading “Eating out with children in Lyndhurst New Forest”

Eating out at The Falcon, Warmington – review

The falcon Warmington - Bubbablue and me

While we don’t eat out for dinner every month, we do have a usual crowd we go out with on occasion. It’s quite a large crowd so sometimes you can’t go out with everyone, and the other week we decided to go and try out a new pub for us. The Falcon in Warmington. The Falcon used to be a Harvester style restaurant with a hotel attached. But a few years ago there was a fire, and it returned having… Continue Reading “Eating out at The Falcon, Warmington – review”

Cherry and chocolate meringue wreath

Christmas cherry & chocolate meringue wreath - Bubbablue and me

Whenever we go to dinner or lunch at friends’ houses, the women usually bring along a dessert.  Yes, there’s always pressure not to have your pudding the one that’s hardly been touched.  Meringue is always one of the first to go. This cherry and chocolate meringue wreath is perfect for Christmas celebrations.  Or it can be made in a traditional circle like a pavlova, or in  log shape to make it a lighter alternative to a yule log. I love… Continue Reading “Cherry and chocolate meringue wreath”

Homemade food gifts: 3 easy treats for food lovers…and kids

Candied oranges and oher festive treats - Bubbablue and me

Every year I make the family members homemade food gifts. Now we’ve all got children, we buy presents for the kids, and don’t bother with the adults (except the in laws). The rest I do family gifts, and that means Christmas treats in the way of food. In the past I’ve done fudge, biscuits, candied oranges and others, but this year I did a mix. I always do some fudge because everyone loves that, and added some chocolatey ‘kisses’ pretzels… Continue Reading “Homemade food gifts: 3 easy treats for food lovers…and kids”

Afternoon tea at The Delaunay and other London eateries

afternoon-tea-at-the-delaunay-bubbablue-and-me

I’m terrible when I’m away for a weekend break or a holiday. So much of the structure of my day revolves around food, and when I went away for the weekend for my 40th, we certainly made the most of places to eat in London. The main place we’d booked in advance was afternoon tea at The Delaunay on the Sunday. I’d planned that we should book in advance to try out some fancy restaurants, but my friend was much… Continue Reading “Afternoon tea at The Delaunay and other London eateries”
