Mums lunch and Bodleian library tour

Exploring books at Bodleian Library Oxford - Bubbablue and me

It’s not often as a mum we get to take time off to relax away from our children. Actually I don’t do too badly, mainly because I work, but also unless I organise for us to go out, N just wants to spend all day out on the farm. But to actually spend the day out with a friend doesn’t happen much.  But I had a flexi day recently and arranged to meet up with a friend and go to… Continue Reading “Mums lunch and Bodleian library tour”

Beaulieu National Motor Museum, Palace House and Top Gear

Day trip to Beaulieu for the motor museum and palace house - Bubbablue and me

One of the first attractions on my list of places to visit on our recent holiday to the New Forest was Beaulieu.  I’ve been twice before, once as a child on a 2 family holiday and once with the OH a few years before having N.  Both times it’s been great, so I knew N would love it as well. Of course going in February did mean some activities weren’t open like the vintage bus ride, but we could still… Continue Reading “Beaulieu National Motor Museum, Palace House and Top Gear”

The Guardians of Oz dvd launch and giveaway

Guardians of Oz DVD

You can’t beat the old classic stories, and Wizard of Oz brings up some great memories for me – village fetes and our estate dressing up a float and ourselves as the Emerald City and the yellow brick road.  I love the old classic film, but this month  sees the release of an animated film The Guardians of Oz. It’s a brand new story and movie, set in the world of Oz, so you can relive the journey back there… Continue Reading “The Guardians of Oz dvd launch and giveaway”

Festive shows – Cinderella and the Lost Slipper

cinderella show banner

N’s at that inbetween age where he’s getting a bit old for the pre-school type of theatre shows (or we’ve seen the ones we’d want to see), but isn’t old enough for full on theatre shows and musicals yet. Last year we decided that our local Mill arts centre’s Christmas showing was too old for him, but this year Cinderella and the Glass Slipper looked more likely. We were given tickets to go along to the show so we took… Continue Reading “Festive shows – Cinderella and the Lost Slipper”

The Snowman and Nutcracker concert at Coventry Cathedral

The snowman and nutcracker concert at Coventry Cathedral - Bubbablue and me

I’ve never been to Coventry Cathedral but recently we combined our love of music with Christmas and headed off there for The Snowman Tour concert. I’d seen it advertised a while back, and as N loves the Snowman and quite enjoyed the Paddington concert last year, I booked for us to go. I’d planned for it to be a good festive treat with us spending the afternoon in Coventry. I’d hoped to check out the transport museum that I’d been… Continue Reading “The Snowman and Nutcracker concert at Coventry Cathedral”

A Gruffalo Experience in Milton Keynes

Gruffalo experience Easter 2016 Milton Keynes

We love Julia Donaldson books, with the Gruffalo being one of N’s favourite characters.  We’ve seen The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child on stage, so when I noticed there was a Gruffalo Experience running this spring at Milton Keynes I decided to take N along. I presumed it was going to be similar to The Lost Gift, an immersive experience where you met characters as the story was told, and it wasn’t far off. We arrived having totally mucked up… Continue Reading “A Gruffalo Experience in Milton Keynes”

Christmas at Warwick Arts Centre – Gruffalo’s Child and The Lost Gift

Warwick Arts Centre Christmas - Lost Gift and Gruffalo's Child with lantern ceiling

I’ve refound my love of Warwick Arts Centre.  It’s only 25 minutes drive from us and it has so many great theatre shows, concerts and exhibitions, we really should make more use of it.  We saw Paddington Bear’s First Concert a few months ago, and around the same time I booked for both of their family Christmas shows. The first one, The Lost Gift was a spontaneous decision and I didn’t really know much about it.  But given we would… Continue Reading “Christmas at Warwick Arts Centre – Gruffalo’s Child and The Lost Gift”

Lights and music in Colourscape at Waddesdon Manor

Waddesdon Manor aviaries

We’d not managed to get tickets for the Christmas light displays at National Trust’s Waddesdon Manor last year which I was really disappointed about, so I was on the look out for another excuse to visit once it opened again after Christmas.  So when I spotted the Colourscape event over the Easter holidays, I knew I wanted to go and see it. Brilliantly it coincided (although I’d not twigged until a couple of days before) with the Cadbury Easter Trails… Continue Reading “Lights and music in Colourscape at Waddesdon Manor”
