A ‘scary’ visit to Mont Orgueil Castle, Gorey Jersey

trip-to-mont-orgueil-castle-bubbablue-and-me

I do like a castle when we’re visiting places, and there were a few on Jersey to visit. I wanted to head out to the east coast to Gorey. The perfect opportunity to make the most of our bus passes, to see the coast, and explore the coastal town. Add Mont Orgueil castle in, and I was envisaging a lovely morning out. Gorey is a pretty seaside town. The bus pulls right into the centre where flower displays abound, restaurants… Continue Reading “A ‘scary’ visit to Mont Orgueil Castle, Gorey Jersey”

Alternative transport in Jersey, a trip to Elizabeth Castle

taking-castle-ferry-to-elizabeth-castle-bubbablue-and-me

Whenever we go on holiday, we always seem to make the most of different types of transport. When we were in Jersey there were a variety of different transport options. Mostly we walked or got the Liberty Buses, but the train and amphibious ferry were on the agenda. Trains N was eyeing up the 4 wheeled and alternative bikes that were available for hire in St Helier along the promenade, but I persuaded him the train was better. So we… Continue Reading “Alternative transport in Jersey, a trip to Elizabeth Castle”

The Living Rainforest – worth a visit?

visiting-the-living-rainforest-bubbablueandme

It’s rare that I come away from a day out disappointed with a trip, so when I do it hits me a bit for six. Especially when it’s taken up part of the one precious day I’ve been able to take off work during half term to spend with N. I do blame him though – because it was his choice to go south to the Living Rainforest, rather than my choice of going north to the Black Country Living… Continue Reading “The Living Rainforest – worth a visit?”

How to pick pumpkins and Millets Farm Centre visit

newbie-tips to pick your own pumpkin and a trip to millets farm centre bubbablue and me

While I hate saying goodbye to the lovely summer weather we had in September, I do love autumn. Not only because it’s my birthday month but also for the colour, mists, sunrise and sunsets, bonfires and more. Pumpkins were never really on my mind until a few years ago when we went pumpkin picking at Hatton Adventure World. Autumn Last year we slacked and just bought one from the supermarket. But this year we wanted to go again. Because picking… Continue Reading “How to pick pumpkins and Millets Farm Centre visit”

Howard Davis Park discovery in St Helier

park-time-visits-in-st-helier-jersey-bubbablue-and-me

Our holiday to Jersey seems like a lifetime ago now. Every so often I look at the photos and remember how good a break, and what fun we had. One of best and most simple things we did was go to the park near our hotel. Every day, in fact several times a day, because it was the nicest way to walk into town. N loves a park, and the Howard Davis Park in St Helier is a pretty good example… Continue Reading “Howard Davis Park discovery in St Helier”

Autumn art installation at Blenheim Palace

art installaton at blenheim palace - bubbablue and me

My birthday weekend was much like any other, apart from a big night out. But it was perfect weather unlike the birthdays of my childhood where it always seemed to rain, aiding my avoidance of the birthday bumps at school! So I decided that I’d make the most of our newly renewed pass and take N to Blenheim Palace. Of course, it’s not that simple getting N off the farm. His reasoning was that he spent the Saturday with me…food… Continue Reading “Autumn art installation at Blenheim Palace”

Tamba Park using Jersey’s LibertyBus

Our holiday to Jersey was the first time I’ve ever taken N away and not had our car. I have to admit it makes me jittery thinking I haven’t got it to rely on, but I needn’t have worried on this holiday.  LibertyBus kindly gave us family passes while for while we were on holiday, so we were able to explore the island. For N, he loves public transport.  Living where we do, the buses just aren’t viable to use. … Continue Reading “Tamba Park using Jersey’s LibertyBus”

A little slice of local railway history

banbury north signal box - Bubbablue and me

I’m not a railway buff. N isn’t a particular railway fan. Unless of course we go on a train, any type of train. Then he gets really excited. I was surprised when N drew a picture of his train set when his homework asked him to draw his favourite toy! But when a friend mentioned that there were tours left to go round the decommissioned Banbury North signal box, we decided we’d take our boys to visit. Surely it would… Continue Reading “A little slice of local railway history”

Paddling pool and scooter fun in Stratford-upon-Avon

scooting and paddling pool fun in Stratford upon avon

Despite us only having weekends to really do many activities, I feel like we managed to cram in a lot over the holidays.  Sometimes free is best, and perfectly suitable for young children. N loves going to the park, and with no splash parks or good parks in town, we quite often head to Stratford-upon-Avon for an early morning play and relax.  We usually pop N’s bike or scooter in the boot too, so there’s plenty we can do at… Continue Reading “Paddling pool and scooter fun in Stratford-upon-Avon”

Penguins and ice creams at Cotswold Wildlife Park

summer-trip-to-cotswold-wildlife-park-bubbablue-and-me

Even when I suggest exciting outings to N, he often has a moan about going. There’s always a hook I need to share in order to change his mind. And it’s quite amazing how fast and extreme his mind can change when something exciting is on offer. With Cotswold Wildlife Park it was the draw of there being a train. We’ve been to Cotswold Wildlife Park a few times, and it’s always been nice weather, but this time I wanted… Continue Reading “Penguins and ice creams at Cotswold Wildlife Park”
