The Snowman and Nutcracker concert at Coventry Cathedral

The snowman and nutcracker concert at Coventry Cathedral - Bubbablue and me

I’ve never been to Coventry Cathedral but recently we combined our love of music with Christmas and headed off there for The Snowman Tour concert. I’d seen it advertised a while back, and as N loves the Snowman and quite enjoyed the Paddington concert last year, I booked for us to go. I’d planned for it to be a good festive treat with us spending the afternoon in Coventry. I’d hoped to check out the transport museum that I’d been… Continue Reading “The Snowman and Nutcracker concert at Coventry Cathedral”

A Waddesdon Manor Christmas festive visit

Festive christmas visit to waddesdon manor - Bubbablue and me

This year I’m really struggling to persuade N to come out with me. I guess most families go out all together, so if the OH came out then he’d be more willing. But this week the guys were turkey picking (ie plucking them) ready for Christmas orders. Usually N loves sitting in the box while the 3 or 4 of them pick the birds. But this time his dad said no because the box gets really dusty and full of… Continue Reading “A Waddesdon Manor Christmas festive visit”

Christmas at Blenheim Palace – light fantastic

Christmas lights at Blenheim Palace - Bubbablue and me

When Blenheim Palace first announced their Christmas at Blenheim light show, I was always champing at the bit to be able to get hold of tickets.  But then I heard the cost.  When you are a National Trust member you get to see amazing shows like the displays and installations at Waddesdon for free. So as annual pass holders it was disappointing to see how much it was going to cost. But with it being the first year the light… Continue Reading “Christmas at Blenheim Palace – light fantastic”

Afternoon tea at The Delaunay and other London eateries

afternoon-tea-at-the-delaunay-bubbablue-and-me

I’m terrible when I’m away for a weekend break or a holiday. So much of the structure of my day revolves around food, and when I went away for the weekend for my 40th, we certainly made the most of places to eat in London. The main place we’d booked in advance was afternoon tea at The Delaunay on the Sunday. I’d planned that we should book in advance to try out some fancy restaurants, but my friend was much… Continue Reading “Afternoon tea at The Delaunay and other London eateries”

A London trip from 18 Stafford Terrace to Sky Garden

london-from-sky-garden-to-18-stafford-terrace-bubbablue-and-me

On my recent weekend to London we visited some totally different places to normal. And a couple of extremes. From the discovery of 18 Stafford Terrace, to the light and airiness of Sky Garden. When we were doing our weekend planning, I was looking for things to see that were a little out of the norm, and came across Stafford Terrace. 18 Stafford Terrace We visited 18 Stafford Terrace on Sunday afternoon. It only opens a couple of days a… Continue Reading “A London trip from 18 Stafford Terrace to Sky Garden”

The Houses of Parliament and unusual London tours

houses-of-parliament-and-unusual-london-tours-bubbablue-and-me

I’m a big fan of a tour, although it has to be the right one. I don’t do audio tours generally – because what if I want to go faster or slower or ask questions. Plus you don’t hear about as much as you would with a live tour guide. I have to say though, that I’ve not been on many. Usually I’ll just look to go round a tourist attraction on my own and see what I fancy. If… Continue Reading “The Houses of Parliament and unusual London tours”

A disastrous cinema trip and park fun

disastrous-cineman-trip-and-games-bubbablue-and-me

Up until now, I’ve never taken N to the cinema. While he does go through phases of watching films, he doesn’t always watch them in one go. So I’d always avoided the cinema with him. He did got to see Peppa Pig a couple of years ago for a friend’s birthday, but it was a collection of several short episodes so easy to digest and cope with. This weekend we didn’t have time to get away from town, so I… Continue Reading “A disastrous cinema trip and park fun”

A ‘scary’ visit to Mont Orgueil Castle, Gorey Jersey

trip-to-mont-orgueil-castle-bubbablue-and-me

I do like a castle when we’re visiting places, and there were a few on Jersey to visit. I wanted to head out to the east coast to Gorey. The perfect opportunity to make the most of our bus passes, to see the coast, and explore the coastal town. Add Mont Orgueil castle in, and I was envisaging a lovely morning out. Gorey is a pretty seaside town. The bus pulls right into the centre where flower displays abound, restaurants… Continue Reading “A ‘scary’ visit to Mont Orgueil Castle, Gorey Jersey”

Alternative transport in Jersey, a trip to Elizabeth Castle

taking-castle-ferry-to-elizabeth-castle-bubbablue-and-me

Whenever we go on holiday, we always seem to make the most of different types of transport. When we were in Jersey there were a variety of different transport options. Mostly we walked or got the Liberty Buses, but the train and amphibious ferry were on the agenda. Trains N was eyeing up the 4 wheeled and alternative bikes that were available for hire in St Helier along the promenade, but I persuaded him the train was better. So we… Continue Reading “Alternative transport in Jersey, a trip to Elizabeth Castle”

The Living Rainforest – worth a visit?

visiting-the-living-rainforest-bubbablueandme

It’s rare that I come away from a day out disappointed with a trip, so when I do it hits me a bit for six. Especially when it’s taken up part of the one precious day I’ve been able to take off work during half term to spend with N. I do blame him though – because it was his choice to go south to the Living Rainforest, rather than my choice of going north to the Black Country Living… Continue Reading “The Living Rainforest – worth a visit?”
