Mottisfont – an outdoor National Trust visit

A winter visit experience at National Trust Mottisfont for family fun - Bubbablue and me

With National Trust membership, I always feel like we should make the most of it whenever we’re away. So on our February break in the New Forest, we stopped at Mottisfont on the way home. N wasn’t impressed at doing another National Trust visit, but given I’d taken him to Peppa Pig World he owed me!  Once he knew there would be lunch boxes and water involved, he was happy.  He even told me to get out my camera to… Continue Reading “Mottisfont – an outdoor National Trust visit”

Friends together at National Trust Stowe Gardens

making friends at Stowe Gardens - Bubbablue and me

It always seems like an effort to get out for a walk at home. It’s a lot easier if I have to get out and go for a purposeful trip out.  Mary from Over 40 and a mum to one and I had arranged to meet up with our boys at Stowe Gardens.  Luckily the day was dry and mild although foggy.  So the usual reflective lake wasn’t showing its true beauty. Monkey and N have only met fleetingly once… Continue Reading “Friends together at National Trust Stowe Gardens”

Winter walk at Stowe Gardens

Winter walk at Stowe Gardens - Bubbablue and me

We had a really lazy Christmas holidays. Usually N can’t wait to get out on the farm, but this holiday, he mostly only went out for an hour or so.  My anticipated free time to spend blogging didn’t happen, and instead we spend a lot of time chilling out at home.  In between Christmas and new year, I was determined to get out though, and with Stowe Gardens not far away, I decided we should go and check out their… Continue Reading “Winter walk at Stowe Gardens”

Living Arrows 2017 week 1 – reflections

LIving Arrows 52 at Stowe

I’m joining in Living Arrows again this year.  It’s lovely to be able to look back and see all the photos I’ve taken of N over the past year, and see how much he’s changed.  If you want to join in, it’s a lovely friendly community to take part in, you can find its home over at What the Red Head Said – click through the badge below. In between Christmas and New Year, I wanted to make use of… Continue Reading “Living Arrows 2017 week 1 – reflections”

My Sunday Photo – serenity at Stowe Gardens

My Sunday Photo sun over Stowe Gardens

We had a morning at Stowe Gardens the other day, before the crowds arrived. Giving us time to decide how far to walk and where.  The advent trail was largely ignored in favour of us going where N fancied. It was a beautiful crisp winters day and the sun was beautifully reflecting everything in the lake.

A Waddesdon Manor Christmas festive visit

Festive christmas visit to waddesdon manor - Bubbablue and me

This year I’m really struggling to persuade N to come out with me. I guess most families go out all together, so if the OH came out then he’d be more willing. But this week the guys were turkey picking (ie plucking them) ready for Christmas orders. Usually N loves sitting in the box while the 3 or 4 of them pick the birds. But this time his dad said no because the box gets really dusty and full of… Continue Reading “A Waddesdon Manor Christmas festive visit”

Dashed high expectations of National Trust’s Claydon

Visiting National Trust Claydon - Bubbablue and me

You know when you decide to go somewhere on a whim, don’t really take much notice of the information provided beforehand and end up at a place that isn’t really suitable or what was expected? That’s exactly how I felt about the National Trust’s Claydon. Whenever the new National Trust booklet comes out, or I do an online search for places near us, Claydon was always one of the nearby houses that was on my vague to visit list. We… Continue Reading “Dashed high expectations of National Trust’s Claydon”

Second National Trust property in a day – Chastleton House

Visiting Chastleton House National Trust - Bubbbalue and me

On my big National Trust weekend (3 properties in 1 weekend), I popped over the Chastleton House one afternoon. I’m not usually a fan of properties that open in the afternoon because I much prefer getting to places early and so leaving enough time to get home in the afternoon, turn N out on the farm with his dad while I can make tea. But it worked quite well with another visit in the morning nearby. My visit to Chastleton was… Continue Reading “Second National Trust property in a day – Chastleton House”

Beautiful blooms at Hidcote Gardens National Trust

National Trust Hidcote Gardens

I say it so frequently over on my Instagram when people comment on my flower photos, I’m really not a gardener. It takes too much time, I don’t have an idea of what to do or an interest in learning. We have a paddock, a wall of rough-looking wildflowers (which I did plant from seeds) and some overgrowth of wild chives and wildflowers (obviously spread from the wall ones) amongst the shrubby roses that the in laws planted one year.… Continue Reading “Beautiful blooms at Hidcote Gardens National Trust”

Carriages at National Trust’s Arlington Court

tower-at-arlington-court

When we go on holiday I always want to do more than sitting on the beach. Our recent camping trip I did relax that a bit and we had 3 full days on the beach. But we also took a couple of days out for a day at Watermouth Castle, a brief trip to Ilfracombe and a visit to Arlington Court.   Arlington Court is another National Trust property. It’s a lovely location for families to visit. When we arrived,… Continue Reading “Carriages at National Trust’s Arlington Court”
