Exploring valleys and hills of Burton Dassett Country Park

It feels like we’ve not been out and about for weeks if not more.  What with Christmas, an attempt at potty training, the weather and parties most weekends, there hasn’t been a big enough chunk of time to go and do something.

But after the rain, there was sun.

I’d decided that I’d take N over to Burton Dassett Country Park about 8 miles from us.  I don’t recall ever having been myself although the OH has relatives living on the edge of it, so really we should make more of an attempt.

Today turned out to be a beautiful day.  Yes it was chilly, especially high up in such an exposed place.  But it was beautifully sunny and dry, and going out relatively early meant there weren’t many people about.  Not that there were many around anyway by the time we left although the carpark was filling up.

My brother invited himself along too (in the hope of bringing a kite to fly – fail on that part due to limited availability for getting hold of one in town), so N got to boss him around as well as telling me where he wanted to go.

N really does love having his uncle around, so hopefully he’ll come out and about more frequently with us when he’s at a loose end.

Burton Dassett park is stunning.  It’s just lots of grassy hills and valleys, a few paths and walks, some rocky places, and very little in the way of trees, I assume because it’s so exposed.  Today we could see over to Stratford-upon-Avon, so it’s great for views.

There were mountain bikers and horse riders, plus the obligatory dog walkers.  Although we didn’t venture far, we didn’t really bump into many people, and N loved climbing the hills, shuffling down the other sides, and trying to persuade us to walk further.

In the warmer weather, we’ll definitely head back again for longer, and possibly a picnic.  There are lots of benches around (some in odd places from my point of view).  If we could guarantee weather, I’d do N’s birthday party there – just lots of space for kids to run around in and nothing for them to actually wreck.

    1. Definitely good exercise. We didn’t stray far off the path as my brother didn’t wear boots, but we still got to explore a little. It’s a bit like being in grassed over volcanic craters!

  1. Emma that’s a wonderful first picture – well done! It looks so picturesque and tranquil there and as you say plenty of room for children to run around and burn off some energy. Shame you were unable to get a kite – maybe next time. Thanks for linking up and sharing with Country Kids.

    1. Thanks Fiona. Definitely on a mission to get a kite. I remember loving them when we were children, and it’s definitely windy enough on the farm for one as well, so we’d get a lot of use out of it.
