August’s month of firsts is going to be a short one. We had lots of fun at weekends and the week off we had before the school term started, but in terms of milestones and achievements it’s been more of the same.
N’s final year before school has been pretty momentous in terms of milestone achievements – learning to ride a bike being the biggest. There’s still the writing his name to be managed…he gets half way through it, then tells me ‘Mummy, my name’s too long’. Oh well, I’m sure he’ll learn to complete it over the next few weeks at school.
In August, N
Can now do up zips fully
He’s been able to zip up for ages, once the zip ends were together, but this month, all of a sudden he’s been able to join the ends, hold and zip up. He’s managed trousers, coats, and hoodies, so he’s well set for starting school.
That’s zips, buttons, hook and eyes, all ticked off. Just shoe laces to be learnt and practised over the next year.
Went down a water slide
N’s always been a bit funny with slides. He loves them…once he gets on them. But it takes him a long time to decide to go down, once he’s climbed to the top. Usually he’ll go up and down the steps a few times before the descent on the slide happens.
On holiday in Weymouth, we went to Splashdown in Poole. Lots of flumes, all to big for N, but there was also a little slide in the under 5’s pool. It was really small, and lots of younger children were going down it. But not N.
But a month later during a couple of days off nursery and work, we went to a different swimming pool near home. The splash pool for younger children was great for N. He could stand in most of it, so it gave him lots of confidence, and meant he didn’t need to wear his float belt. There was a small water slide – really small, just a toddler slide really. But N was straight on it. No worrying. Straight on and down, over and over again.
Maybe he’ll be a bit more confident in trying other water slides in future now.
