On the seventh day of parenting – Mini gifts made simple

All the best things come in small packages. So they say.  When you have people in the family who have everything they want, then giving presents can be difficult.  Or you can have people like me to buy for, who’re really fussy.

Sometimes you also just want something small to give alongside a larger present.  Kids might be getting a new bike or scooter but having something small to open can be more magical because it’s easier to hide what it is. And sometimes you’re just giving a voucher and want to make it more special.

Mini Gift Ideas

(not all at mini prices)

Kits are the way to go.  Just think of the theme that interests the person you’re giving to and you can personalise the gift to them.  Put them in a little tin or buy or make a little gift box, and they’ll have a lovely personalised present.

Mini Craft Tins

Jewellery making kit – add various jewellery making pliers*, jewellery findings – wire, clasps, bracelet memory wire, earring findings, sachets or little pots of beads etc and put in an organza gift bag.  Include a ‘how to make’ guide for the item.

Origami – nice pack of papers and some pens, put in a folded decorated envelope or card gift box

Mosaics – make a tile or picture – for kids opt for coloured sticky mosaic sheets and print out some designs on card. For adults, you can buy mini mosaic tiles and get a small pot of glue, spatula and a tile or other base to complete the kit.

Fridge magnets or key rings – shrink plastic, pens or pencils that will work on the shrink plastic, key ring or magnet attachments. Instructions on how to use the shrink plastic.

Lego kits – make your own which means you get to play as well. You can download lots of lego instructions for the mixed lego boxes online.  Either create your own or print them off. Buy a big box of mixed Lego and put together the pieces needed for the item.  Great for stockings or even advent activities.

Voucher boxes

Make little envelopes or gift boxes to pop vouchers, giftcards or money inside.  Or decorate tins or mini boxes using relevant magazines pages or decoupatch papers to decorate.

Try

  • For car lovers – get a driving experience and pop the vouchers and a toy car into a box
  • For chocolate lovers – chocolate making course in a chocolate box, along with some truffles
  • For musical or theatre fans – theatre tickets in a box decorated with theatre masks or make it look like a stage with red curtains, add some opera glasses or a relevant CD

All of these smaller sized gifts would be ideal for stocking fillers.
