Sharing a love of Warcombe Farm campsite, Woolacombe

It’s not often we return to a place for a second time on holiday. But this year we really struggled to find a campsite that takes all of our boxes i.e. decent showers and toilets, electric hook-up and a good chance or guaranteed allocation of pitches for a group. We’d wanted to go to Cornwall this year but very few would take groups and most didn’t have electric hook up. So we decided return to the same campsite but we went through two years ago at Warcombe Farm Campsite in Mortehoe just outside Woolacombe.

We knew that Warcombe Farm had everything we needed and we all love Woolacombe for the great beach and good bodyboarding. The fact that they will guarantee the pitches that you’re booked on was the deciding factor.

What we love about Warcombe Farm Campsite

Guaranteed pitches means we don’t have one or two people from our group somewhere else and we don’t have to turn up and hope there’s room for us all to go together.

The playground

When we go camping we don’t want a massive holiday park with games room, swimming pool and everything else they put on. And we have been camping without a playground. The kids cope perfectly well without one. But at Warcombe Farm there is a zip wire, playground equipment, swings, and space to play football or any other games and it means the children get stuck in meeting others. Are we even had a highly amusing parents vs children football match on the last evening.

Great toilets and shower blocks

These are one of our essentials when we go camping. We don’t really slum it. Underfloor heating, family shower rooms, two different shower/toilet blocks and piped music, and they’re always clean.

Great views

The campsite is right at the top of the hill above Woolacombe and you get the sunset over the sea, which is beautiful to watch the sun come down. Around the other side there are fields and one night, we even had the silage carts going up and down the lane which our farm children loved, making it a bit home from home.

Close enough to Woolacombe

Woolacombe is only a 5 minute drive away down the hill and there’s plenty of parking there. It’s nice to be just outside the village rather than being in one of the sprawling holiday parks.

Warcombe Farm campsite is also just round the corner from Mortehoe village which has a great fish and chip shop. If you’re in a group, do ring through your order in advance, because we were able to just walk straight in the head of the queue and pick up hours which was waiting for us. It does get really busy in their.

Takeaways

2 years ago there was a little takeaway shop on the site serving different themed food each evening. We found it really useful and this year we’re going to use it again but unfortunately it’s no longer open. They do have a pop-up fish and chip shop on Saturdays but we miss that one. But you can get deliveries from places in Woolacombe so we always get a pizza delivery one evening we’re away.

Nice walks nearby

A walk around the campsite is always nice to have a nosy and check out other tents. We always have tent envy. If you head to the bottom of a campsite there’s a walk through the dog walking area and a nature reserve, down to the coastal path through the woods. It’s a really pretty walk but not best done in the heat of summer. We gave up on our attempt to get to the coastal path because it was just too hot and I didn’t really have the shoes for it. But it’s nice to be that close if you want to do that.

Efficient booking in and on site safety

It’s always straightforward when you book in at Warcombe Farm. It doesn’t take long and you’re soon pitching your tents. Each car is giving its own security code to enter and leave so it’s a nice safe car park.

Good variety of pitch types

We always just have a standard electric hook-up pitch but if you’ve got bigger tent or camper vans there’s a variety of pitches to suit. Ours tend to be open ones but you can also get pitchs which are divided by hedges for a bit more privacy. Pitches are also a good size with you easily able to get in 1-2 cars alongside your tent.

For the second time we really enjoyed our stay at Warcombe Farm campsite. It’s certainly one that we could go back to as it’s easy, and we know it really well, as well as it having everything we want. But I do want to branch out and stay and other places purely so I’ve got places to go and visit that are new to me rather than just having to do the beach every day. But I’d certainly recommend Warcombe Farm if you’re looking for a campsite around Woolacombe.

Do you have any campsites you can recommend around the UK which have electric hook-up, good toilets and take groups?
