Bassetts vitamins for healthy kids and family fun

Autumn’s arrived (although the weather hasn’t really turned cold yet), and winter will soon be upon us.  Lots of people think that means the onslaught of colds and lurgy going round, and having to hibernate inside.  Ok, so everyone likes a bit of chill out time in front of the fire, wrapped in a blanket and watching movies, but there’s so much still to see and do outside in autumn.  We’ve been sent the new Bassetts Vitamins 3-6 Multivitamins + Vitamin D & Calcium to see if we can get lively and have #nodulldays.

I’m always a bit blasé about vitamins.  I used to hate the old tablet powdery vitamins my mum used to feed us as kids.  So much so that I used to hide them around the house and pretend I’d eaten them, before my mum realised and went ballistic!  The OH has Vit C and Zinc to try and ward off colds and tonsillitis threat because he really suffers when he does get ill, but N doesn’t usually have vitamins. My theory is he’s always outside playing, he’s got pretty good immunity because he’s always out on the farm, and he eats a well-balanced meal.  But Vitamin D is an issue even for kids who get outdoors a lot.

After 3 years of my brother struggling with his health and being told he had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, it’s finally come to light that actually he had a serious Vitamin D deficiency. This is someone who used to be outside fishing or playing golf pretty much every day.   Now he metal detects so a large proportion of his time is spent outside.  But often people wrap up warm, wear a hat and gloves etc, so the sun doesn’t really get to them.  Especially during the winter months.  If that’s someone who’s outside all the time, what about the rest of us who’re at work in an office, arriving and leaving in the dark, and children who might be kept inside in the colder weather, or who’re at school and also get wrapped up in coats.

Public Health England advise that everyone needs a daily intake of 10 micrograms of vitamin D which helps protect bone and muscle health.  Most vitamin D comes from sunlight during spring and summer, but a daily supplement can help during the autumn and winter.

What does vitamin D do?

Vitamin D and calcium work together to support healthy bones, teeth and keep muscles working well.  They’re essential for a child’s normal bone growth and development.

Bassetts Vitamins have launched new 3-6 Multivitamins + Vitamin D & Calcium.  They’re soft fruity pastilles with the benefits of a standard multivitamin plus added Vitamin D and Calcium.  And no powdery tablets like in my childhood days, these are soft and chewy in a delicious peach and apricot flavour.  All with natural flavours and colours, with no added sugar.  Perfect for children like N who I try to keep sweets away from.

What did we did think of them?

Let’s just say, they’ve gone down well with N.  He loved the ‘medicine’ style blister pack, and wanted to have one straight away.  I wasn’t sure about the flavour option, but he said it tasted really good, like a sweet.  For him, these are like a sweet treat, although I had to make sure he knows he’s only to have 1 a day.  He’s insisted that he’s responsible enough to get his own pastille each morning.

We talked about the goodness they have in them, and how they’ll help make his bones and muscles strong for helping on the farm and doing sport.  And they also gave the chance to talk about getting outside lots, but that these vitamins help give a sunny boost during the darker colder months.

Bassetts Vitamins supports and celebrates the fun moments us families share in our daily lives.  There’s certainly no dull moment with kids involved.  N’s not one for shying away inside.  He gets bored after a while.  So this October we’ve already been out and about in various different ways.

  • Pumpkin picking which of course had to include a playground visit to see how high he could swing.
  • We’ve visited Brick Wonders which involved a walk down by the canal beforehand
  • Been to the fair
  • Cycling and walking enjoying autumn colours at the local park
  • Playing tennis in the garden
  • N’s been out quad-biking and helping on the farm

And there’s more still to come with days out over half term, cross country races at school, bonfire night and shoot season. N will certainly need his energy and strength for some of those, so hopefully Bassetts Vitamins will help give him the oomph to keep going.
