Introducing the Ultimate Kids Bucket and Spade List

As regular readers will know, we love getting out and about, exploring new places, and rediscovering old favourites.  I tend to have a list on my phone of all the places I note that I want to see and take N to, but other than that we don’t have a bucket list of places or experiences.

When I was growing up I did have a few dreams:

  1. ice skating in Central Park (hmm, went to New York, didn’t manage to do any skating so that was a missed opportunity);
  2. Watch the ballet at the Royal Opera House – duly ticked off after their refurbishment about 15 years ago
  3. Play with a proper orchestra – ticked off at school when I played with the Band of the Central Air Force, and also playing a movement each with other music scholars, of a concerto with the school orchestra.
  4. Visit the Peter Pan statue in London. Weird one, but suitably ticked off as a child.

N’s too young to be planning bucket lists, but mostly his wants involve going to the beach again to use his blue bucket and new spade.  I do like the idea of tick lists where he can see the things he’s done – they could help with keeping memories of what he’s done, and I could keep a photo journal of all the things he’s done.

The list has some great classics, perfect for every summer holiday: fly a kite on the beach, visit a castle, go to a UK theme park etc.  But there’s also some more aspirational ideas, like swimming with dolphins and playing with gadgets in Japan.

If you’re after some ideas for holidays, or things to do when out and about, then the kids can get involved ticking off what they’ve done.

N’s already ticked off some items on the list:

Visiting a castle

exploring rocks and ruins at kenilworth castkel

See fish swimming in an aquarium

fish at bristol aquarium

Build a sandcastle

revealing the sandcastle

Do your children have a bucket list?  What kind of things do they have on it?

  1. What a great list for the kids. I was going to do this too. Sounds ace!!! Good luck with it. Thank you so much for linking up to Share With Me. I hope to see you again tomorrow for another great round #sharewithme

  2. Me either. I usually have a random events list by date for weekend things to plan our time, but this gives some great ideas.

  3. This is such a lovely idea! I’m inspired to look into this! 🙂 x

    1. It’s a great idea isn’t it. This one gives some brilliant start points for now, but also some ideas for future trips.
