The first week of the summer holidays, we spent on our annual camping trip with several of our farming friends – mums and kids, plus a couple of dads. We were missing a few of the families from last year, but it’s a lovely group to spend time with and brilliant for the children to enjoy each other’s company.

The first 2 days were beautiful – sunny and hot. After pitching the tents, we headed down to Three Cliffs Bay below the campsite. It was a fair trek down there, and a worse walk back up top again, especially with beach gear.

We live pretty much in the middle of the country, so don’t get to the beach except on holidays. N loves the beach in any weather. He spent a little time body boarding, but this year seemed to prefer digging.

I always think he looks like a little pro body boarder with a wetsuit on. This year we found a handymedown one from one of the boys on last year’s camping trip, fitted better than the wetsuit he had last year.

But give him a spade and he’ll happily waft it around, ordering others where to dig, keen to dig holes and build castles.

  1. It sounds like a lovely holiday – I really want to take the boys camping but I don’t think it’s going to happen this summer. #LivingArrows

  2. Can’t beat digging on the beach! What a lovely tradition, we tried camping for the first time last weekend and had a great time. I am sure it’s the people you go with that make it! #LivingArrows

  3. The beach is so much fun! I used to love to dig a hole and then I would get my towel and sit in it like a seat. And my brother and I would build a car and use the spade as the gear stick! so many happy memories #LivingArrows

    • The seaside is brilliant fo kids. N had a hole then put his body board across it to sit on. I was a bit worried about it splitting!

  4. Love this one! I could have spent hours digging holes at the beach when I was little. I used to like to dig down until I could stand in it and disappear! Love his wetsuit too – you’re right, he definitely looks like a professional! #LivingArrows

    • My brother once dug a hole on Theddlethorpe beach, it was so deep he had to make footholes in it. 2 boys came over and asked to have his hole when he went, but he refused and filled it back in before we left!

This makes me want to visit the beach – looks like fun! #LivingArrows

  6. It is quite a trek to three cliffs isn’t it, but always worth it I think, it’s gorgeous there! Lovely photo, you can’t beat digging in the sand and building sandcastles can you! x #LivingArrows
