The easiest 2 ingredient microwave chocolate orange fudge recipe

I love fudge but usually only make it at Christmas. It’s fast to make, and there are so many flavour combinations, you can find a flavour to suit everyone. I make easy microwave fudge because it’s the fastest way, and I don’t have to worry about burning it in a pan.

Fudge is great to give as gifts – I’ve used cellophane bags before, but it’s so much nicer if you can get hold of some nice little gift tins*. Then once the fudge is eaten the recipient can reuse the tin for something else. I’ve found them in Home Bargains which are a nice small size.

The fudge I make uses sweetened condensed milk. It might be the cheats way, but it’s fast and failsafe. Plus there’s a lot less effort involved.  I’m not so much of a fan of the crumbly fudge you get on holiday in the UK and prefer it a bit smoother. Condensed milk gives that smooth fudge.

Basic easy fudge is just chocolate and condensed milk. Yes, only 2 ingredients. You can add flavourings and change up the chocolate.as you prefer. The only watch out is if you add a more liquid ingredient, then you’ll need to add more chocolate to help it set.  My rhubarb attempt was a case in point – I was using stewed rhubarb, and it didn’t set properly. The same with my chocolate raspberry version putting the raspberries in early so they smushed up, also didn’t work. Adding more chocolate was needed, probably adding half again.

If you don’t have a microwave, you can melt together the chocolate and condensed milk in a saucepan on a low heat.  Or try slow cooker fudge instead, just leave the lid off and stir every so often.  You’ll find the fudge mixture thickens as the chocolate melts, so there’s no need for a sugar thermometer, it just gets thick and then sets in the fridge afterwards.

Some say leave it to cool a bit before putting it in the fridge, but I just whack it straight in. I want the easy option. Leave the lid off first so you avoid having condensation though. Once it’s cool you can add a lid on if needed.

In terms of the type of tin or container to use. If you’re using a full tin of condensed milk and 400g of chocolate, you want a 20×20 tin to pour it into to set. I usually make half the recipe and then will use the other half of the condensed milk to make a second flavour.  Plus, how much fudge do you really want if you’ve only got a couple of you eating it?  If I have too much at home, it would get eaten just as fast. Condensed milk will keep in the fridge in a covered container for a week or so.

Rather than a tin, I use a plastic container – takeaway containers are a good size – you’d get 2 full tin batches out using those.  Just remember to line them with baking paper up the sides to help get the fudge out afterwards. You could try a silicone tray, although I’ve not tried it.

Ingredients

  • Condensed milk 397g can
  • 400g of orange flavoured milk chocolate (2x Terry’s chocolate orange – you could use the dark or other variants if you want)
  • Optional to top – extra mini chocolate oranges or break up some jaffa cakes instead.

How to make the fudge

1, Put the condensed milk and broken up chocolate in a microwavable bowl or jug. Make it a large one in case it overspills.

2, Microwave until the chocolate is fully melted, stirring at intervals. It should be thickening once it’s melted and will feel like it’s coming away from the sides of the jug.

3, Pour into a lined tin or container.and put in the fridge to set for a few hours.

4, When fully set, remove from the tin using the lining paper, and chop into squares.

Make sure you store in the fridge – it will keep for a couple of weeks.

If you don’t have chocolate orange, just use plain or milk chocolate and add 2 teaspoons of orange extract. Use more or less to taste, but you might need to add another 50-100g of chocolate.

    1. That’s what I realised when I kept seeing Donna’s. As I tend to make 2 flavours at once I can whip through the flavours, although have had the 2 disasters (tasted ok, but didn’t set properly). Just have to spread out the posts, but about 6 written and ready to go!
