We’ve recently been on a steam train with the Gloucestershire railway to visit Father Christmas.  The carriages were brilliant – retro (or probably vintage is more appropriate).  I swear the upholstery must have been 1970s with the orange and brown colouring!

  1. It has an ‘American’ feel to me. Love the angles.

We went on the Swanage one when the boys were younger with the grandparents (it’s not too far). I do miss those days!

    • Ooh yes, the Swanage one is lovely. We did that last year on a family holiday.

  2. I think I’d be quite excited to sit on one of these. I keep wanting to go on the Northern belle!

  3. What an unusual shot! We’d love to go on an old fashioned steam train! We’re lucky enough to have the Watercress Line near us so maybe if I’m lucky we’re take a ride in it next year! #MySundayPhoto

  4. This is such a great image – I wonder how many different kinds of people have sat in those chairs over the years. I hope you had a great time – what a lovely way to meet the man in red. #mysundayphoto

  5. How great, I love vintage decor like this. We’ve never taken the girls on a stream train…yet

    Thank you for linking up

  6. Love the sound of a steam train ride to visit Father Christmas. Those seats are very 70s! 🙂

  7. I once did this at Didcot Rail Station, many, many, many years ago (I must have been about five years of age!). Brings back memories. #MySundayPhoto

  8. Very retro indeed! We have occasionally taken the kids down south to ride the steam trains on the Swanage line – something we will have to do again next year, I think. I find the old trains as fascinating as they do.
