Since our work moved to flexi-time and allowed those on compressed hours to take flexi as well, I’ve managed to scrape at least a half day off each month. A day’s nice, but not regularly achievable when there’s been school holidays and my annual leave off. But half a day works out quite nicely giving me a bit of me time.
I do feel a little strange when flexi leave falls outside school holidays. It’s strange going off for the day without N. But it’s a good opportunity to try and catch up with friends or do some odds and ends and have some time to myself.
Last month I had a spontaneous trip to see La La Land, but this month there weren’t any films of interest on. So I decided it would be an afternoon in a coffee shop (or 2) with a bit of shopping inbetween. Banbury might not have many of the old and good shops left (in the centre), but we have a lot of coffee shops. There’s 4 Costa’s at the last count, a Starbucks, Caffe Nero and all the independents).
So I had a good few hours – lunch, hot chocolate (after all it was Storm Doris day and it was blowing the coffee shop door open and closed), a cinnamon swirl, 3 blog posts written and half a book read. And I got to pick N up from after school club earlier than usual. Is it bad that I let him go to after school club rather than picking him up at 3.15?!
Bliss.

I think we all need some decent me time every now and then.
How lovely to get some me time, it’s been as long time since I had any, although you were still working and achieved loads!
That sounds perfect to me – I must give it a try! 🙂 x
That sounds like the perfect day to me! I might have to start pencilling them in for myself (on a weekend when Mr R is home!) 😀 #mysundayphoto
Feels like such a treat, but definitely worth a little bit of time
How fab you can have a little ‘me’ time. Looks like you were very productive 🙂
Ahh! How lovely! A bit of time to your self sounds wonderful. It sounds like you got a lot done too 😀 x
It was lovely
This sounds like a lovely way to spend an afternoon to yourself!
It was bliss
Oh I love days like this. It’s so needed sometimes just to have some good catch up time without any kids. I don’t have a flexi contract but I only work part time so can squeeze some time in sometimes. I keep promising myself a spa session!
Book it. Otherwise you never will. It’s definitely a luxury to have sometime off
That looks like my kind of working
Thank you for linking up
Nah, I clearly remember going to the pub under similar circumstances on one occasion (only to have the one you understand). You obviously enjoyed your time off!
Wow, you achieved a lot with half a day off!
A little bit of ‘you’ time must feel nice. I can’t believe you managed to write three blog posts and read half a book in an afternoon. I really must look at how I do things!
xx
That looks a tasty way to write blog posts!
Enjoy your free time, we don’t get much as parents. Lovely photo.
I know what you mean! We recently adopted a flexi-day system and while I rarely have enough time to take a full day it’s nice to be able to take a half-day most months, even if it is just to run routine errands. A little bit of me-time can feel indulgent, but it’s so important to help recharge the batteries and to have something to look forward to.
