Papercuts with The Steady Hand
I like to think of myself as crafty (arty-crafty, rather than crafty sly!), but there’s no way I could have the steadiness or the artistic ability to do paper cutting. It seems to have become a more popular craft nowadays, and with some of the results you can get, you can understand why.
I was sent a bespoke paper cut by The Steady Hand, so I thought it would be a good idea to introduce paper cutting to my readers, in case it’s something of interest. I’d say if you fancy something trying something new, it could be worth giving it a go, without the kids’ help. Although I’ll be sticking to getting someone like Kirsten to do it for me!
As it’s my god-daughter’s birthday coming up, I suggested a horsey themed card with her name on it, and this gorgeous card is what I was sent.
It totally fits my expectations – purple, a bit of glitter, horsey and personalised. It’s also not as fragile as I thought it would be which is always good when giving cards or gifts to children. I think my god-daughter will love it and it would be perfect to be framed afterwards as a keepsake.
I wanted to find out a bit more about The Steady Hand and how Kirsten got started, so over to Kirsten.
Back in April 2013, I’d been looking for a new hobby, but I’m not particularly crafty. Then I saw some papercut examples. I’d never seen any before, but they looked so beautiful, and I thought maybe this was something I could have a go at. I hunted round for all the equipment I needed, and made my first papercut as a wedding gift for my cousin.
I was really proud of what I’d created, and it carried on from there. Now my designs are becoming more creative, more detailed and decorative, and my cutting has improved tenfold (typical proof that practise makes perfect! – Emma)

That’s what I’m like too. I don’t know how they can get the lines cut so fine without ripping or getting scrumpled. Or having a toddler run loose and trying to join in!
