Pick pumpkins to be proud of from Millets Farm PYO

Millets farm pumpkin picking - Bubbablue and me

Sometimes children don’t want to do the activities suggested (food shopping anyone?).  But other times something sparks their imagination and they’re ready and waiting at the door to leave.  Picking a pumpkin is one of those times. I don’t really know why because we don’t go to town at Halloween at all.  But Millets Farm pick your own was something we did last year, and N obviously remembered and was keen to go again this year. I didn’t want to… Continue Reading “Pick pumpkins to be proud of from Millets Farm PYO”

Oxford walks – Holywell and Botanic Gardens

Oxford walks - Bubbablue and me

It’s not often I get the chance (and excuse) to go out with my camera and just roam without having an agenda.  But when my car is in for service, it’s a perfect excuse as N never wants to come with me. Unfortunately I hadn’t realised that my day in Oxford coincided with the global instawalk, otherwise I’d have tagged along with the Oxford instawalk gang. Being lazy I decided against taking my mirrorless camera.  A slight mistake as it… Continue Reading “Oxford walks – Holywell and Botanic Gardens”

Friends Fest at Blenheim Palace

Friends Fest at Blenheim Palace - Bubbablue and me

Last year I heard about Friends Fest too late to buy tickets. They were all sold out.  This year, I was on that waiting list and I bought tickets as soon as possible the Blenheim Palace Friends Fest.  It was a shame children’s tickets were the same price as adults – the general admission was free, it was the timed slots for the set tours that you had to pay for (£26 a ticket). If you’ve not heard of Friends… Continue Reading “Friends Fest at Blenheim Palace”

Kilkenny Lane country park – a new playground discovery

kilkenny lane country park - Bubbablue and me

You’d think most children would love to visit places and get out away from home. But not my son because the farm calls to him.  My only chance for getting him out is offering a bike ride.  But even that is a battle because he always just says he wants to go to the local park. Sigh. The playground isn’t great, it’s a bit dull and it’s not very exciting going to the same place time and time again. But… Continue Reading “Kilkenny Lane country park – a new playground discovery”

Countryfile Live 2017 – celebrating outdoor life

Countryfile live 2017 sunny day outdoors - Bubbablue and me

I love going out and about with N. It’s lovely to spend time with him and see how he’s changing over the year.  Last year we had a great time at the first ever Countryfile Live show, and again managed to get tickets to return there again this year.  For once, there was no moaning from N. Hey, there’s tractors (and fairground rides which is what he was planning for), so there wasn’t a problem having to bargain to get… Continue Reading “Countryfile Live 2017 – celebrating outdoor life”

Cornbury Music Festival with Dorset Cereals – day festival tips

Cornbury music festival day tips - Bubbablue and me

The last (and only) time I went to a music festival was 3 years ago at Cornbury.  This year, we were invited by Dorset Cereals back to Cornbury Music Festival for the last hurrah. Yes, unfortunately, the Cornbury Festival has played its final songs, and we’ll be sad to see it go.  Dorset Cereals were providing their breakfast takeover in the campsite over the weekend, so we headed along to meet them and enjoy the festival. Day trippers only Living… Continue Reading “Cornbury Music Festival with Dorset Cereals – day festival tips”

Helping kids have broader life experiences – trip to Blenheim Palace

Broader life experiences and a day trip to Blenheim Palace - Bubbablue and me

I’ve said it before, if N could stay on the farm all the time helping out he would. He’d be quite happy trailing his dad around, or his uncle.  And apart from wanting to go on holidays, he would happily forego any days out with me.  Obviously this makes me sad.  I don’t get to spend much time with him as it is being at work and with school, so weekends are precious.  But more than that I want him… Continue Reading “Helping kids have broader life experiences – trip to Blenheim Palace”

Festive shows – Cinderella and the Lost Slipper

cinderella show banner

N’s at that inbetween age where he’s getting a bit old for the pre-school type of theatre shows (or we’ve seen the ones we’d want to see), but isn’t old enough for full on theatre shows and musicals yet. Last year we decided that our local Mill arts centre’s Christmas showing was too old for him, but this year Cinderella and the Glass Slipper looked more likely. We were given tickets to go along to the show so we took… Continue Reading “Festive shows – Cinderella and the Lost Slipper”

Christmas at Blenheim Palace – light fantastic

Christmas lights at Blenheim Palace - Bubbablue and me

When Blenheim Palace first announced their Christmas at Blenheim light show, I was always champing at the bit to be able to get hold of tickets.  But then I heard the cost.  When you are a National Trust member you get to see amazing shows like the displays and installations at Waddesdon for free. So as annual pass holders it was disappointing to see how much it was going to cost. But with it being the first year the light… Continue Reading “Christmas at Blenheim Palace – light fantastic”

How to pick pumpkins and Millets Farm Centre visit

newbie-tips to pick your own pumpkin and a trip to millets farm centre bubbablue and me

While I hate saying goodbye to the lovely summer weather we had in September, I do love autumn. Not only because it’s my birthday month but also for the colour, mists, sunrise and sunsets, bonfires and more. Pumpkins were never really on my mind until a few years ago when we went pumpkin picking at Hatton Adventure World. Autumn Last year we slacked and just bought one from the supermarket. But this year we wanted to go again. Because picking… Continue Reading “How to pick pumpkins and Millets Farm Centre visit”
