A Waddesdon Manor Christmas with Enchanted Menagerie artwork

Waddesdon Manor Christmas tips - Bubbablue and me

I do love a Christmas display and I seem to be winning N around. When I told him I’d booked a Waddesdon Manor Christmas visit again, he wasn’t keen. But I suggested we’d revisit our timings, going later in the day, so he’d have some time beforehand and we’d hopefully be able to see the light display at the end of the day as well.  I was keen to see what the art installation was as well – this year… Continue Reading “A Waddesdon Manor Christmas with Enchanted Menagerie artwork”

Black country living museum – exploring historic real life

Visiting Black Country Living Museum - Bubbablue and me

Since having N, I’ve revisited so many of the places we went to as children. My mums used to take us all over the UK visiting different attractions and counties, and I’ve wanted to continue that with N. Not only does it get him away from the farm, learning that there are other options out there. But also for educational reasons. Visiting a historic location will bring history to life much better than reading about it in school.  The Black… Continue Reading “Black country living museum – exploring historic real life”

From Ragley Hall to Coughton Court National Trust

Kids photography tips at Coughton Court - Bubbablue and me

Sometimes a day just doesn’t go to plan.  I try to throw in a spontaneous day out, giving N a few options.  But mum usually knows best, on this occasion ending up at National Trust’s Coughton Court after an aborted trip to Ragley Hall. Ragley Hall disappointment After N requested a trip to Ragley Hall (the lure of the adventure playground overrode anything else suggested), I looked up the opening times as 10am with tours in the afternoon. We don’t… Continue Reading “From Ragley Hall to Coughton Court National Trust”

Lego Cafe and a relaxed day out in Stratford-upon-Avon

Lego cafe fun in Stratford upon Avon - Bubbablue and me

Stratford-upon-Avon is usually my go to summer day out. It’s perfect for spending time down by the river, or with N in the playground. But during half term, N had requested a visit to Lego Café which he’d heard his school friends mention. So Lego Cafe it was, plus a mooch around in the morning. Travel tip –> if you’re driving to Stratford, you really want to get a parking space early rather than sitting in traffic all day There’s… Continue Reading “Lego Cafe and a relaxed day out in Stratford-upon-Avon”

My Sunday Photo – Coughton Court statue

My Sunday Photo Coughton Court statue

This week’s My Sunday Photo wasn’t taken by me, but by N. We went to Coughton Court, a National Trust property during half term. N forgot to take his camera out of the car with him, so he decided he was using mine instead. Okay, so my camera’s pretty good on auto, but apart from taking down the highlights a little, this was what came out of the camera. Straight, all in photo, and with a bit of garden to… Continue Reading “My Sunday Photo – Coughton Court statue”

Brick Wonders at Banbury Museum

Brick wonders at Banbury Museum - Bubbablue and me

Lego. Most of us are swimming in the stuff at home.  And there’s very few children who don’t like it.  For me, it’s part of childhood, remembering building with our parents and siblings, displaying out amazing wonky builds.  Our local museum had a Lego exhibition on recently and I finally managed to take N to see Brick Wonders. Banbury museum isn’t somewhere we visit regularly. It’s small but does hold the occasional special exhibition, putting on children’s activities during the… Continue Reading “Brick Wonders at Banbury Museum”

Pick pumpkins to be proud of from Millets Farm PYO

Millets farm pumpkin picking - Bubbablue and me

Sometimes children don’t want to do the activities suggested (food shopping anyone?).  But other times something sparks their imagination and they’re ready and waiting at the door to leave.  Picking a pumpkin is one of those times. I don’t really know why because we don’t go to town at Halloween at all.  But Millets Farm pick your own was something we did last year, and N obviously remembered and was keen to go again this year. I didn’t want to… Continue Reading “Pick pumpkins to be proud of from Millets Farm PYO”

How to entertain the family at Snowshill Manor and Gardens

Snowshill Manor and gardens - Bubbablue and me

I’m always looking for a chance to use our National Trust membership and haven’t been for a while. So with the agreement that we’d go out for the day for my birthday, I only had to decide which site to visit.  We’re lucky because we’re only an hour from so many places, and I decided that Snowshill Manor and Gardens should be the next place to visit. Snowshill Manor is just into Worcestershire, so was just under an hour’s drive. … Continue Reading “How to entertain the family at Snowshill Manor and Gardens”

Autumn days and traditions – enjoying outdoors

autumn days and traditions - Bubbablueandme

I love autumn days and it seems N is enjoying the autumn traditions too. Harvest festival and conkers Last week was harvest festival at school. That always means a walk back across the village green with all the children collecting conkers.  I love watching them all enjoying nature, talking about the conkers they’ve found and stuffing trouser pockets, jumpers and bags with plentiful brown bounty. Needless to say N was the last to leave which I wasn’t too worried about.… Continue Reading “Autumn days and traditions – enjoying outdoors”

A London South Bank walk – BML17 insta-walk

London southbank insta-walk - Bubbablue and me

After 2 years of having 2 weekends of blog conferences back to back, I know it’s too hard.  In future if the timings are like that again, I’ll be making a decision for one only, and based on  BML17 this year, it won’t be that one unfortunately.  I want to focus this on one of the good things about BML this time, and that was the insta-walk – a London South Bank walk. Much as I love to wander with… Continue Reading “A London South Bank walk – BML17 insta-walk”
