Visiting Lodge Farm Sunflowers pick your own

Another day another flower field. I’m always looking for pick your own sunflowers, and this time I visited Lodge Farm Sunflowers.  It’s not far from Compton Verney, just outside Kineton in South Warwickshire so it’s well worth visiting both on the same day.

Lodge Farm sunflowers isn’t a huge set up, but it’s well done, and proceeds go to charity. There’s no entry fee. You just pay for the flowers you pick – a bargain 50p a stem (I reckon they should ask a couple of quid for entry, plus the flowers, but they obviously know what works for them).

They do have secateurs you can borrow, or you can take your own with you.

I found them very welcoming and helpful when I arrived, probably looking a bit lost. As it was my first time, I was told the set up, then let loose on the 3 acres of sunflowers.

They also have a wildflower patch just in front of the sunflowers, so it’s nice to look at those too.

In the sunflower field, here’s a few paths through and you can walk round the edges. If you spot any flowers you want to pick, you can go where you want. There’s plenty of space to get in and about without ruining any flowers if you’re careful, but I’d recommend trainers or sturdy shoes rather than sandals if you’re going to go off the main paths.

There were a few families with children running through the sunflowers, and I spotted someone with a dog (which are allowed on leads only). But the sunflower patch itself was quite quiet. It’s not set up like other larger places with photography areas, so you can just wander as you want, and it’s unlikely to get hugely busy.

Once you’re done picking sunflowers, you pay in the refreshment trailer.  Along with the flowers, you can also buy cake and drinks. The trailer is prettily set up, as are the tables and chairs to sit and enjoy your drinks.

I chose a chocolate brownie which was delicious although very rich.  I loved the idea of having buckets of water next to the tables so you could keep your sunflowers well watered before heading home.

Tips for visiting Lodge Farm Sunflowers

If you’re in the area and fancy visiting Lodge Farm sunflowers pick your own, it’s only open for a few weeks each year, end of July/August time. It’s open daily 10am-5pm.

As with all flower fields, it’s dependent on the weather. So follow them on Facebook for the latest news on when they’re opening.

The sunflower patch is obviously on a working farm with vehicles going in and out next to the car parking. So if you’re taking children, watch out for them running around as there’s no fenced off walkway.

Take your own secateurs in case it gets busy and there’s none left.
