Pumpkins Pumpkins Everywhere – getting ready for Halloween
Apart from books from school, we’ve not had many new books for N recently. I think he’s generally really happy with repeating the rest of the books he has already. But we were sent Pumpkins Pumpkins Everywhere as our next Parragon Book Buddies read.
N does like a themed book at certain times of the year (he’s already had out the Christmas books!), so he’s been quite interested in this one as we’ve been able to talk about Halloween and what pumpkin designs we want to try this year.
The book doesn’t really have a story other than a Halloween parade, so it probably works better for younger children in the rhyming and prose. The words and rhythm are repetitive, so over several readings, children can easily read along with a parent.
There’s lots of outfits in the costume parade (none of them really ghoulish or scary), and we’re taken through the pages seeing all the different designs on the pumpkins. Some happy, some grumpy, some with spiders, bats and wolves.
I like the quality of the book. It’s thick paper and the cover has a glitter look and feel to it, which makes it a bit more exciting to bring out on a special occasion.
