Black country living museum – exploring historic real life

Visiting Black Country Living Museum - Bubbablue and me

Since having N, I’ve revisited so many of the places we went to as children. My mums used to take us all over the UK visiting different attractions and counties, and I’ve wanted to continue that with N. Not only does it get him away from the farm, learning that there are other options out there. But also for educational reasons. Visiting a historic location will bring history to life much better than reading about it in school.  The Black… Continue Reading “Black country living museum – exploring historic real life”

From Ragley Hall to Coughton Court National Trust

Kids photography tips at Coughton Court - Bubbablue and me

Sometimes a day just doesn’t go to plan.  I try to throw in a spontaneous day out, giving N a few options.  But mum usually knows best, on this occasion ending up at National Trust’s Coughton Court after an aborted trip to Ragley Hall. Ragley Hall disappointment After N requested a trip to Ragley Hall (the lure of the adventure playground overrode anything else suggested), I looked up the opening times as 10am with tours in the afternoon. We don’t… Continue Reading “From Ragley Hall to Coughton Court National Trust”

Lego Cafe and a relaxed day out in Stratford-upon-Avon

Lego cafe fun in Stratford upon Avon - Bubbablue and me

Stratford-upon-Avon is usually my go to summer day out. It’s perfect for spending time down by the river, or with N in the playground. But during half term, N had requested a visit to Lego Café which he’d heard his school friends mention. So Lego Cafe it was, plus a mooch around in the morning. Travel tip –> if you’re driving to Stratford, you really want to get a parking space early rather than sitting in traffic all day There’s… Continue Reading “Lego Cafe and a relaxed day out in Stratford-upon-Avon”

Pick pumpkins to be proud of from Millets Farm PYO

Millets farm pumpkin picking - Bubbablue and me

Sometimes children don’t want to do the activities suggested (food shopping anyone?).  But other times something sparks their imagination and they’re ready and waiting at the door to leave.  Picking a pumpkin is one of those times. I don’t really know why because we don’t go to town at Halloween at all.  But Millets Farm pick your own was something we did last year, and N obviously remembered and was keen to go again this year. I didn’t want to… Continue Reading “Pick pumpkins to be proud of from Millets Farm PYO”

How to entertain the family at Snowshill Manor and Gardens

Snowshill Manor and gardens - Bubbablue and me

I’m always looking for a chance to use our National Trust membership and haven’t been for a while. So with the agreement that we’d go out for the day for my birthday, I only had to decide which site to visit.  We’re lucky because we’re only an hour from so many places, and I decided that Snowshill Manor and Gardens should be the next place to visit. Snowshill Manor is just into Worcestershire, so was just under an hour’s drive. … Continue Reading “How to entertain the family at Snowshill Manor and Gardens”

Educational fun at Portsmouth historic dockyard

portsmouth historic dockyard - Bubbablue and me

Sometimes children get something in their head and there’s no backing down.  I often think N is a bit easy going and needs to assert himself a bit more with his peers, but he doesn’t have any problems asserting himself with me.  I just didn’t expect it in the middle of our visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. I’d planned a nice day out there (ok, there was rain too, so it wasn’t going to be that cheery).  I’ve been several… Continue Reading “Educational fun at Portsmouth historic dockyard”

Fishbourne Roman Palace and Gardens

Fishbourne roman palace and gardens - Bubbablue and me

I hated history at school but loved reading about ancient civilisations at home.  Ancient roman houses and Greek gods and goddesses were so interesting.  So whenever there’s the opportunity to visit roman ruins I’m always interested to check them out.  After our morning on West Wittering beach, I decided a detour was required to take in some culture with Fishbourne Roman Palace only a few minutes drive away, outside Chichester. I have to admit to being a little let down… Continue Reading “Fishbourne Roman Palace and Gardens”

Blue reef aquarium Southsea

blue reef aquarium Portsmouth - Bubbablue and me

I often check there’s an aquarium nearby when I’m planning places to visit. They’re good for rainy day activities, although obviously then get busy.  Near where we were staying in Southsea, right on the sea front, was Blue Reef Aquarium and I’d picked out the coupons I’d found in case N wanted to go.  I didn’t expect him to ask to go on the first day we were exploring Southsea seafront. Blue Reef Aquarium is looking a little tired especially… Continue Reading “Blue reef aquarium Southsea”

Exploring Southsea and Clarence Pier for seaside fun

Exploring southsea and clarence pier - Bubbablue and me

When we go on holiday, just N and I, it’s usually a last minute booking and decision on where we’re going. I tend to look for places near the coast because we’re so central, it’s the only chance we get when going away for a few days.  Thankfully N is used to our visiting lots of places in a short time.  Both of us whizz round and we rarely spend all day in one place.  But we have started chilling… Continue Reading “Exploring Southsea and Clarence Pier for seaside fun”

Sunny West Wittering beach day

beach day at west wittering beach - Bubbablue and me

Whenever we go on holiday, I always try to take N somewhere that’s close enough to go to the seaside for a beach day.  We recently stayed in Southsea, Portsmouth – yes it has its own beach but it’s shingle like so much of the south coast around that area. But a short journey to West Wittering and N had the sandy beach he prefers. Oh and I have the pretty beach huts!  Which were surprisingly unused for such a… Continue Reading “Sunny West Wittering beach day”
