Family days out in Warwickshire
If you’re looking for ideas for family days out in Warwickshire, with why they’re places to visit, then you’re in the right place. We love a day out whether it’s just a weekend day popping out somewhere, or a day out while on holiday. I’m reliving my childhood visiting around the UK, near home and further away, and love sharing it with N.
This series of days out posts are based on round ups of places we’ve loved on our travels. Hopefully it’ll make them easier for you to find, especially if you’re looking for recommendations for places to visit. I’ll also be including recommendations from other bloggers, because if you’re looking for guidance on where to go you want to hear from local people as well as visitors to an area.
History, culture and museums
Castle ruins – great to let the kids explore. Head there on event days and try your hand at archery or similar activities
Great for a full day out (or now stay overnight in their glamping options), educational and fun, look out for 2 for 1 offers and special events. Be prepared to walk some way from the car park if you’re not there early (even if you book in advance!)
MAD museum, Stratford upon Avon
Dark and small, an unexpected delight of a museum, celebrating everything mechanical.
Beautiful art gallery venue. Look out for special events, or outdoor exhibitions to keep the children interested. They also run tots activities during the week, and concerts. Beautiful place to walk and there’s a children’s play area in the woods.
For everything arts – music, cinema, theatre. We’ve been to several events and shows there. If you’re taking the children to shows, watch out for pre-show activities running – these are usually free. They also hold family activity days through the year.
Amazing children’s play area, but check in advance opening times for the house – they’re limited and it’s not always clear on the website. You have to book on a tour for the house.
British Motor Museum, Gaydon
Celebrate every type of car and get up close. There’s great activity areas for children, a small play area, and plenty of season family activities over school holidays.
National Trust
Lovely gardens and deer park for walking, games on the lawn in the summer
Famous for its yew trees and gardens
Beautiful moated manor house plus churches also open to the public
Speciality is its art gallery, hints of the current family around the house, the house is usually decorated and exhibits around certain periods in its history. Better for adults or older children interest wise, although there is a walk round the lake and a nature walk
Lovely house and gardens, look out for special events and children’s trails. There’s plenty of walk options and games on the lawn
Animals and nature
Great for a full day out, falconry, animals, outdoor play equipment, and seasonal rides, gold panning, soft play and a couple of restaurants. There’s also shop and seasonal events
Butterfly Farm Stratford upon Avon
A small butterfly farm, but great for a short wander round with children. And next to the recreation ground and river.
Redwings Horse Sanctuary, Oxhill
Free, they ask for a donation. See the horses and donkeys at the horse sanctuary. Wrap up warm in winter, but warm up at the café afterwards. Good for a space hour on the way somewhere else.
Just outside Stratford, get there by car (pay and display) or via the city tourist hop on hop off buses. Get involved in activities and see people dressed as Tudor farmers as you discover the farm.
Other
Great cycling trails, walks as well as a couple of play areas, and you just pay for parking. Small café.
River walks in Stratford upon Avon
Avoid the crowds and walk down by the river and theatre. Look out for events – dragon boat racing, the river festival and more through the year. There’s also the novelty of the ferry across the river.
Lego café, Stratford upon Avon – now closed. But there’s a once a month Lego cafe drop in now held at St James’ Church, Alveston.
Recreation ground park Stratford upon Avon
One of the best play areas we’ve been to, get there early, and take swimwear during summer season for the paddling pool. The recreation ground is great for picnics, and there’s now a cycling track and road set up.
St Nicholas Park Warwick
A lovely park, with mini golf, tennis courts, fair rides (buy a pass for the best deal), play area, and row boat options. Small, busy café.
Coome Country Park, Coventry
Lovely walks, play areas, and a café plus activity/wildlife area for children to learn more about what’s in the park. Trails available and activities over school holiday. Pay for parking.
Great for kite flying and blustery walks.
Jephson Gardens and Victoria Park, Leamington Spa
Look out for the arts events held in this large joined Leamington park. There’s an aviary, cafe, riverside walks, sensory garden and skate park.
Where to stay
Glamping in the Knight’s village at Warwick Castle
Eating out
Peacock Inn, Oxhill – good quality, local pub fayre

wow, it appears that we need to go to warwickshire soon! There is so many lovely things to do there. Maybe next summer once the twins are settled and the weather is more pleasant!! #coolmumclub
Warwickshire is a good weekend break location for us as not too far away. Sure this will come in useful in the next few years!
These places all sound gorgeous! I think we’re probably a little too far away for a day trip, but who knows, one day! #pinned!
