Project 52 2024 week 44
This week’s been fairly mild but the autumn fogs have come in. It’s a week where I’ve had a good few days out but it did end with some not feeling too good, so I’m trying to avoid them. Here’s my week 44 of Project 52.
Sunday – had a lovely morning at a nearby Flea Market with a friend. We didn’t buy anything, but it was lovely to have something different to go to. We had lunch in the town at Prezzo – with a blue light discount thanks to my friend’s card. Then back home to make a roast, although I’m not sure I want any more food.
Monday – back to work, I can’t even remember what we got up to. N was out on the farm as usual for the half term.
Tuesday – decided to try and make keto custard, so I could have something sweet. It turned out really well, and tasted fairly like custard so I was pleased with that.
Wednesday – another working day, getting things finished before having a couple of days off. Had a lovely chat with a different mum at football training. Their session seemed really short compared to normal. The budget wasn’t great. I mean there could have been some worse points for me personally, but farmers have been screwed with the change to inheritance tax for agricultural property/land. Be prepared for more land having to be sold off (likely to developers, or used for non food production), so food shortages, more imports, and surely that’s not going to help climate change on the transport side of things. Sigh. Evidently farmers aren’t ‘working people’ according to Labour.
Thursday – decided to go to Stowe for a good walk around and to see the Standing with Giants display ‘For Your Tomorrow. I was there for opening, and walked a good 4 miles. The display of the fallen soldier statues in the valley with the mist was haunting, and quite emotional for a lot of people there. Then I managed to finally get to do a tour of Stowe House, (the state rooms of what’s now Stowe School). I thought I had a private tour to myself, but 10 minutes in, 5 more people joined us. It was really interesting, and funny to think how nearly 30 years ago I was in the same dining hall getting team teas after hockey matches against the school (although the girls didn’t get hot food or get to eat in the hall, whereas the boys did).
In the afternoon, I finally got round to getting the car washed. It was getting a bit embarrassing to drive around!

Friday – morning trip out. Took N and a friend so they could go bowling and play mini golf. I mooched around Lidl which I rarely get to go to, tried to get some book advice for N in Waterstones, and chilled out reading for a bit. Then we all went to Nandos for lunch. Nice and easy for me on keto, with virtually no carbs in sight.
Saturday – no football match today as N felt too rough. They did have a win but it was close, so they’re top of their league for at least until the other 2 match results come in. Instead I headed into town – to get bread, check out the charity shops for books for N (4 for £1 each was much better than the £43 with discounts on 4 books from Amazon, because newer books and even the second hand one was pricy). I stopped at the garden centre for their Christmas decorations, and bought a couple of new tree decorations.
New posts this week:
Things I’ve enjoyed this week:
- Looking round Christmas decorations
- Finding books in the charity shops, it’s not often I shop in them, I’m usually just dropping off.
- A nice walk in the autumn mist and leaves around Stowe before it got too busy.
Things I’m grateful for this week:
- Getting to Stowe before the crowds.
- A couple of days off
- Trying and having a couple of new keto ‘puddings’ work so I’ve got some treat ideas stored up that are fast to make.
The Standing with Giants display at Stowe looks so haunting. How nice to have a tour of Stowe House. Hope N and his friend enjoyed their bowling and mini golf. Glad you’ve managed to make a couple of keto-friendly puddings. #project365
The statues at Stowe are fairly impressive. The inheritance tax for farmers is just mad. I could understand if the farming wasn’t going to continue within the family and it was going to be sold off for housing, but not if it is continuing as a business. I’ve just signed up to the Blue Light discount.
The fallen soldier statues are heartbreaking.
That inheritance tax for farmers is just crazy. Even in cases like someone who inherits a flat in London is crazy, especially as a small flat goes over the threshold. But with farmers is just stupid. If someone sells a part of the farmer and gets developed into property, I imagine the nearby land price goes up, meaning an extra slice of the farm will have to be sold when the next generation inherits.
I also think the raise in NI tax is not a good idea. It will affect the ones on lower incomes as employers will struggle to raise the salaries.
Sunday sounds like such a lovely day. I bet you were stuffed with all the food.
Good job with the keto custard.
That is rotten news about the budget when it comes to farmers. I know where I live more and more land is being sold off to property developers which is just sad.
The display of the soldiers are something else, so sombre but beautiful at the same time.
I hope N is feeling better now. What a great bargain with the books. x
The display of the fallen soldier statues looks amazing and the weather only adds to the atmosphere. Do love a Blue Light discount, my DIL has one and we used it for Isaac’s prom suit. Hope you had a lovely half term
