The 7th birthday interview – how things change
It’s that time of year again for N’s birthday interview. I love looking back at previous ones to see how they differ. Of course, he refused to do a video this year, and no photos, but it’s always a great way to have a chat and find out what your children are about.
N’s 7 now, and while obviously he’s growing up gradually, it feels like being 7 is a big step up. It’s his last year in key stage 1/infants at school. He’s knowing his own mind more and has a lot more opinions that he can voice well. He loves routine (although maybe not doing homework, or specifically reading). And he looks like he’s shooting up in height by the week, even though the tape measure doesn’t agree.
Here’s this year’s birthday interview.
1, What’s your favourite colour?
Blue
2, What’s your favourite toy?
That’s hard, I have so many. I know, my sprayer and Massey Fergusson because they’re the same. (Not sure they are but what do I know. It has to be recent for N to remember things!)
3, What’s your favourite food?
Yorkshire pudding (no problem with this one. He’d eat it every day if possible).
4, What’s your favourite tv show?
Operation Ouch
5, Where do we live?
That’s so easy, S Lane. (Do you want to rethink that?). Laughs. That’s so silly, I said school not home. It’s P House.
6, What does Mummy do?
Don’t know, I can’t remember what it’s called. (Project Manager) Oh yes. Laughs
7, What does Daddy do?
Farming
8, Who’s your best friend?
Outside family friends, H and J. (different people for the first time mentioned. He seems to play with different people every day)
9, What do you want to be when you grow up?
I want to be a farmer. (What sort?). A vegetable farmer. (I think being an arable farmer is pretty unlikely on our farm, and his dad might have something to say about that).
10, What’s your favourite thing to do with Mummy?
Go and see the lights and eat marshmallows (Blenheim Palace Christmas lights)
11, What’s your favourite thing to do with Daddy?
Playing on the ipad (not what I expected!)
12, If you could go anywhere, where would you go?
Ummm, South America. (Why’s that?) I don’t know. Oh I know, Jersey. (I think he only said South America because one of his friends is going there on holiday soon).
13, What makes you happy?
Mum and Daddy (awwww)
14, What makes you scared?
Er, I don’t know. Nothing
15, What’s your favourite sport?
Tennis. And Kyle Edmund is going to be like Andy Murray. England have got 3 good people (well, not sure Murray would want to be classed as English!)
16, What’s your favourite book?
Horrid Henry Rocks.
So some haven’t changed from last year’s interview, N is still pretty brief in answering questions, and he’s not good at answering without thinking about things.
What kind of things would your children answer?
