Project 52 2026 week 6

It’s been a rain with lots more rain, lots more dancing, and some time out with friends which is always nice. Here’s my week 6 of project 52.

Sunday – had a bit of a lie in, read my book, then nipped into town/farm shop. Sundays are annoying having to wait til 11 for places to open, but the retail park was rammed by the time I left at 11.08. It seems Sundays are the new Saturday for shopping (or maybe on Saturdays, Iโ€™m just in and out a lot earlier).Cooked the roast beef slow today, and it was deemed better by the men of the house. More Olympics tv but had to stream it because Freeview wasnโ€™t working so nothing had recorded. N worked out later that the tv wasnโ€™t working because something had been unplugged by the OH in the backroom which somehow was needed for the tvs.

Monday – not much going on, just work, school and the like. Tried to use up by blueberries by mixing them with greek yoghurt, then freezing spoons of them, and coating in melted chocolate. They didnโ€™t coat very well, so after storing in the fridge, anything not covered just melted back again. They tasted ok, but donโ€™t think Iโ€™ll make them again. Still didnโ€™t make me any more of a blueberry fan (taste a bit soapy to me).

Tuesday – uneventful day other than dancing. Good classes, with lots of new people moving up to improvers. Although lots of people dropped like fies through learning a new very fast intermediates class. I just about lasted!

Wednesday – an amazing pink sunset this evening, after just a normal work day. The bonus was a relatively bright day with no rain. I realised I’ve not judged my holidays right this year. Because i didn’t take much off over the summer, I’ve ended up with 9 days left. Some I can carry over, but I’ve had to try and ram in 5-6 more days in February and March. Oops.

Thursday – in the office for work, and had a quick catch up with a friend I rarely see at work anymore as she was in too. Post work picked up a couple of orders from Next and M&S, before heading off to dancing.

Again lots of new people starting which is good. Most people have โ€˜theirโ€™ space/row they stand in whereas I move around. Last week with people missing I was in the front, this week I was back in the back row. But it was funny when someone who started last week panicked to see me not in front of her to copy. The teacher had to point out she could copy me when they turned to the back row. Nice to be seen as someone easy to follow, although I do have a tendency for my mind to wander about other things and then Iโ€™ll go wrong.

Getting there and home was a nightmare. The final part of the main road was closed by police for a serious accident, so nice single lane, slightly flooded road detour required. Then on the way home I got to the bottom of the large hill to find cars could come down, but the road was closed going up (another accident), so I ended up detouring through a random village to get home. It seems I hit the hill 2 minutes too early, as it was all cleared by the time my friend came down the same road.

Friday – lovely flexi day, and met up with a friend for a natter over the morning and lunch. Nice food, and great to catch up. Picked up N from the bus before the mad rush – make tea, get ready to go out and find out if the rain had cancelled tennis. Car shared with a friend to our dancing social which was really good. Although it was quieter than normal. I know a lot more dances now, but it just means less sitting down and a lot more getting hot and sweaty. They have air conditioning there, but itโ€™s never put on except in the summer. I just boil, while some people are still in long sleeves and jumpers! Late night getting home.

Saturday – up and out early to take N to a Young Drivers lesson. This was his 4th annual one. Evidently he said last year it was boring and he didnโ€™t want to go again which I didnโ€™t remember when I booked another lesson. The instructor evidently said it was like being with an Uber driver who was just driving him around, and told him he was ready to take my car out for a spin home! He didnโ€™t seem to do any manouevres this time, just independently drove around. But he does get driving practice on the farm, so as long as when he eventually gets to drive on the roads, so itโ€™s handy to get in both formal and casual practice.

We had a cheeky McDonalds for lunch, then back home to make pizza dough before he had a hair appointment. Yes, it was a bright sunny, if chilly day, so N had the pizza oven out. So a nice team, and nice to have a teen to cook it for us!

New blog posts this week:

Things I’ve enjoyed this week:

  • Nice ‘day’ spent with N on Saturday
  • Dancing social
  • Catching up with a friend and having a nice relaxing day.

Things I’m grateful for:

  • No tyre blowouts…yet. Pothole hell is everywhere round by us, with new large holes popping up by the day, and our local Facebook pages full of it. I don’t know if it’s everywhere else too, but Oxfordshire seems to be insane state of the roads with no sign of anything being fiexed
  • A nice sunny proper winter day on Saturday.
  • Mornings and evenings getting lighter.

  1. Well done on your dancing, it sounds like you are doing really well. It amazes me when the young ones know more about technology than us older ones. I used to think I knew a lot, but I’m way behind now. My Little Man, however, seems to know everything. He’s not so good at cooking though, but I’m glad my daughter’s help out sometimes.

  2. My dad does his weekly shop on a Sunday and says it’s always the busiest day in the supermarkets now.
What you did with the blueberries sound interesting, I am not a fan of them either, my family love them though.
My fella still has 6 more holiday days to use before they reset in April, they don’t carry over. He doesn’t know how he’s ended up with so many left considering he has all of next week off.
Good job with the dancing and that is brilliant that someone looks at you to copy. That is such a great compliment.
It sounds like N will pass his driving test in no time with all the experience he’s had.
The potholes are really had here too! I think all the rain has really damaged the roads. Yesterday was lovely, with all of the sunshine! x

    1. It was bliss to have a lovely sunny day. Back to rain again today. I’ve got some of next week off too. I guess it’s long weekends/short working weeks til the end of the year to use the holidays up.
