What makes a good playdate according to a 6 year old boy

good playdates according to 6yo - Bubbablue and me

Like most children, N loves a playdate. He doesn’t get to have many because after school isn’t an option and during school holidays he’s either on the farm with his dad (who won’t take him to playdates) or at holiday club. But he has a lot of views on what makes a good playdate. It does seem that the friends he has are lovely boys with parents he gets on with (or the parents must be very easy going to… Continue Reading “What makes a good playdate according to a 6 year old boy”

Enjoying snow day activities

Snow day activities - Bubbablue and me

Every winter I grimace when I hear or read the news telling us ‘it’s going to be the worst winter weather this year’.  And every year I hope for no snow.  Snow days are all very well when you don’t have to go anywhere, but when you live in rural areas, my heart sinks.  And yes, we in the UK don’t have snow like elsewhere in the world. But we aren’t used to dealing with it, so we like to… Continue Reading “Enjoying snow day activities”

Enjoying the outdoors with Trespass coats

Outdoors fun with trespass coats - Bubbablue and me

The weather’s certainly turned colder here, and we’re expecting a cold spell on the way.  Being sent coats from Trespass was perfect timing. I don’t mind the cold as long as I’m dressed for the weather, and sometimes I can get a little hot so I need outerwear that’s easy to strip on and off when needed.  As for N he’s always outdoors and seems to grow out of coats quickly, or he needs them for several different events. For… Continue Reading “Enjoying the outdoors with Trespass coats”

Living Arrows 2017 week 43 – on the swings

Living Arrows 2017 week 43 - swings

This might not be the most focused shot, but I love it for this week’s Living Arrows. This was taken at Millets Farm where we went to pick pumpkins.  N loves swings, they must be his favourite playground equipment at the moment. And surprisingly he actually let me take a photo and even smiled. It looks like he’s got 2 gaps in his teeth but all 8 of his milk teeth have been replaced by his adult teeth. They’ve just… Continue Reading “Living Arrows 2017 week 43 – on the swings”

Autumn days and traditions – enjoying outdoors

autumn days and traditions - Bubbablueandme

I love autumn days and it seems N is enjoying the autumn traditions too. Harvest festival and conkers Last week was harvest festival at school. That always means a walk back across the village green with all the children collecting conkers.  I love watching them all enjoying nature, talking about the conkers they’ve found and stuffing trouser pockets, jumpers and bags with plentiful brown bounty. Needless to say N was the last to leave which I wasn’t too worried about.… Continue Reading “Autumn days and traditions – enjoying outdoors”

Sunny West Wittering beach day

beach day at west wittering beach - Bubbablue and me

Whenever we go on holiday, I always try to take N somewhere that’s close enough to go to the seaside for a beach day.  We recently stayed in Southsea, Portsmouth – yes it has its own beach but it’s shingle like so much of the south coast around that area. But a short journey to West Wittering and N had the sandy beach he prefers. Oh and I have the pretty beach huts!  Which were surprisingly unused for such a… Continue Reading “Sunny West Wittering beach day”

Kilkenny Lane country park – a new playground discovery

kilkenny lane country park - Bubbablue and me

You’d think most children would love to visit places and get out away from home. But not my son because the farm calls to him.  My only chance for getting him out is offering a bike ride.  But even that is a battle because he always just says he wants to go to the local park. Sigh. The playground isn’t great, it’s a bit dull and it’s not very exciting going to the same place time and time again. But… Continue Reading “Kilkenny Lane country park – a new playground discovery”

10 tips for the best camping snacks

Top tips for camping snacks - Bubbablue and me

If you don’t have permanently hungry children at home, don’t be surprised if they turn into ravenous ‘hangry’ creatures when you go camping. There’s something about being in the great outdoors that makes everyone hungry. But with mealtime routines often more relaxed, sometimes you just need to pump them full of camping snacks. When we’re on holiday, we have more ice creams, and I’m also a bit more relaxed about snacks. Mainly because when we’re camping, although we take an… Continue Reading “10 tips for the best camping snacks”

Camping at Three Cliffs Bay campsite

3 cliffs bay campsite - Bubbablue and me

When we go camping each year, we don’t slum it. We don’t go glamping either but we have certain criteria for the campsites.  Let’s face it, we’re a load of mums with our kids (and sometimes a couple of dads), but we want a bit of an easy life and we certainly want to be able to have a good shower. So the campsites need to have: Nice toilet and shower blocks (ideally family showers for those of us with… Continue Reading “Camping at Three Cliffs Bay campsite”

A blustery Rhossili bay walk

Rhossili Bay walk - Bubbablue and me

One of the things I love about holidays is getting out and about.  I’m not great at getting out around home, unless we go out for the day, but on holiday there’s always places I want to see and do.  This camping trip the weather wasn’t that great for doing much once we’d spent the 2 sunny days on the beach.  But once the rain cleared in the afternoons we did cram in a couple of extra detours to places.… Continue Reading “A blustery Rhossili bay walk”
