Project 52 2025 week 12

Sunday – I didn’t do much. Sundays are always quite chilled, although I can’t really remember what I did if anything of interest!

Monday – normal working day. N got his GCSE options booklet home. He’d hoped to do BTEC Sport rather than GCSE PE but they’re only allowed to do one vocational/BTEC course which for him would be Business (I’m not sure why they don’t do GCSE business rather than BTEC). So that means his only option for sport would be to change to the GCSE PE. Personally I think it looks more interesting with more physical sport than the BTEC does.  His alternative would then be Triple Science. I had to go to town after work to pick up N and a friend as they’d gone in after school.

Tuesday – I had a half day leave, and spent it catching up on all my picking up click and collect orders or dropping returns here there and everywhere. So frustrating that it costs so much to return things, when stores have closed and there’s no other option to shop in store (if they even have sizes/range in store). I had a nice Costa panini for lunch before heading to pick N up from the bus.

Wednesday – pretty much a full day of training in the office. Then rushed back home after for first outdoor training session after winter. It was a lovely day, but was a little too dark by the end. There weren’t many of them, and Saturday’s match they’ve had to concede due to last minute school things for one group of the boys, and a few injuries. Sad they’ve had to concede but no point going ahead.

Thursday – had the tv aerial people out to check out our lack of signal. So one new digital aerial. The loft booster was wrecked too, so we’ve got a plug thing to boost it from the back room instead. So now we have normal Freeview again, and hopefully no more moaning from the OH about it.

Then it was GCSE options evening. After speaking to his PE teacher, he’s decided he will do the PE GCSE as the BTEC isn’t an option if he’s doing business, and he’ll do that instead of Triple Science. I’d rather he did the triple science given that it’s no more additional exams or papers from combined science, and probably less work than learning a whole extra subject. But it’s his choice. I think the PE will probably have quite a bit of science in too. I just hope he’s ok for all the practical sports he needs to be able to show.

Friday – I had a day of leave, but nothing planned. I needed to sort a few things in town in the morning (more socks for N – anyone else’s children permanently need new socks?). Had a quick lunch then back and chance to start watching Adolescence.  N started the non uniform day in blue and navy shorts, but arrived home in red and black ones. Hopefully it raised some good money for the PTSA.

Saturday – the boys couldn’t get a team out, only potentially 9 players but 2 of those are injured, so we conceded. Sad because it should have been an easily won game for us. It’s looking like next week won’t get a team out either. The joys of one school that a few go to, doing things on weekends, as well as approaching Easter holidays I’m presuming. So I’m not sure how many matches they’ll actually make, but now we’ve been caught by the team behind us, so we’ll be going down a few places if we miss any more matches. Gutted for them. And I miss my socialising with the other parents and a nice drive to other places.

I bought some little shrubs from the market so dug those in. Although I’ve no idea whether they’ll survive – not sure whether it’s well drained or not there, so we’ll see. It’s still looking bare because the seeds/bulbs won’t come up for a while yet. But next year it might look better (and once the chives are all out). At the moment, it needs a good weeding with dandelions and grasses, but I don’t want to dig up things accidentally.

New posts this week:

Things I’ve enjoyed this week:

  • Work training
  • Relaxed days off work
  • Catching up with a few parents at options evening, and having a better understanding now of who some of the other kids are that N mentions.

Things I’m grateful for:

  • Watching Adolescence. While N won’t watch it (he doesn’t really watch tv or films), we have talked about it, and he’s seen clips from it being shared on TikTok (ironic given one of the issues on the show is about teens and social media).
  • Getting a new TV aerial. Hopefully we’ll have fewer signal issues now
  • More nice weather. Although we could probably do with a little bit of rain

  1. Adolescence was so good, wasn’t it. Eliza’s options are in, fingers crossed she gets to do what she wants. We have also applied for another school, one that focusses on performing arts, not sure she will get in though as they offered her a year 9 place, not year 10

  2. Shame about N’s football team, hope they manage to catch up with the matches. Sounds like you’ve had a quiet week. Our weekends are either very quiet or we’re out visiting family and friends, can never seem to get the right mix.

  3. GCSE options sound complicated, but we have all that to look forward to next year with Daisy so I better do some reading up about them. It sounds like N has got some good guidance from the teacher and hopefully, he will be happy with his choices.
Good luck with your little shrubs, hopefully, they will thrive and survive.

  4. Glad to hear that your TV aerial has been sorted, and the signal is there now.
It’s so hard to choose the right GSCEs. You can only help navigating the options, but ultimately it’s up to our kids to make the choices. I’m still not sure E. did the right ones, and he’s going to sit mocks in a month’s time. eeek
Haven’t watched Adolescence, but talked to E. and suggested we might watch it together, since everyone else seems to have watched it already.
    Hope your shrubs thrive.

  5. I feel your pain with options, Eliza had her heart set on choosing performing arts, music and dance, but she can only choose one thanks to the way they are set out. Triple science is compulsory for her, she just gets to choose between geography and history.

  6. Sunday’s are a chilled day here too.
That’s good news that you have the TV’s sorted with the signal.
Ahh! Business sounds like a good choice for N and good luck to him.
What a shame that the boys couldn’t get a team out today.
I watched Adolescence and both of my girls have too since. It really has been a talking point for us this week. x
