Project 52 2025 week 29

It’s been a tiring week. I definitely need the weekend. Hopefully the break in the weather will mean easier and better sleeping rather than waking in the early mornings. Here’s my week 29 for Project 52.

Sunday – it was so hot again, I just stayed inside. We seem to all of a sudden have a few wasps finding their way in the house. Next door had the same issue so did homemade jam jar traps. They donated one to us, so is outside on the lawn (not the best place with the sun!) next to the apple core N threw on the lawn for the bids which has obviously attracted the wasps.

Monday – not as warm a day as expected thanks to the wind.  It did get hotter later on in the afternoon. N got his GCSE options he chose. Nothing like the school leaving it til the last minute (maybe to avoid too many complaints if kids didn’t get what they wanted?).

Tuesday – day in the office. Didn’t have time to really get home and back into town again afterwards for dancing, so instead nipped to Tesco for some bits and pieces and got a Too Good To Go pastry bag from one of the Costas (definitely the best bag so far for value and items).

Line dancing in the evening was hot as usual. But nowhere near as busy. Nearly had a bust up with a mum and daughter who always stand in the front row near the fan. The fan points up, but I pointed it down in the break so it would actually flow around the room so the rest of us our side could get some breeze. They were shivering, so I offered to switch row with them. But they wouldn’t even though they were cold. Silly people. I walked out with someone who agreed, and said she’d have been happy to switch to the cold area too.

Wednesday – just a normal work and school day. Nothing much happened.

Thursday – very early start going to London for work. Nice easy route to our meeting location so I could take my time without getting boiled in the heat. Meeting finished on time, so a rush back to the tube, then to Marylebone. Managed to get an earlier train than I’d planned, and joined a couple of colleagues also on the same train. It meant I could get to dancing on time.

Friday – last day of Year 9 for N. They finished early and he and some friends stayed on the bus into town to go to Nandos and go bowling. Last tennis lesson of the year, only 4 of them turned up.

Saturday – it rained (properly) overnight and all morning which we really needed. It looks like all this coming week is going to have some amount of rain each day. N came with me into town to pick up some bits and we had a treat Costa. Loved the 30% off food treat in the app too.

My mum always used to point out the BT Tower to us when in London. My meeting was nearby

Things I’ve enjoyed this week:

  • Turning on the tv just in time to see England’s 2 goals against Sweden. Go the Lionnesses.
  • My new Kindle. It’s so fast compared to my old one.
  • Getting a spotted flycatcher and yellowhammer appearing on my Merlin app at home for the first time (I’ve not seen yellowhammers for a couple of years, so good news they’re back)

Things I’m grateful for this week:

  • Trains running smoothly, and finally got my compensation for the cancelled train a few weeks ago be approved.
  • The rain and cooler weather.
  • Being out and about in the evenings means time off cooking dinners! Always a treat.

  1. So pleased N got his GCSEs choices confirmed.
Hope you manage to get rid of the wasps. We had a nest in the garden many years ago, eeek.
Glad your train compensation has been approved.
Cooler evenings were a blessing after so many hot days and tiring nights.

  2. Nice to have some cooler weather and rain. How odd that the mother and daughter wanted to stay in the front row even though they were too cold being next to the fan. That’s good that you were able to get an earlier train after your meeting and get to dancing on time. Hope N is enjoying his summer break. #project365

  3. I’ve not used ‘too good to go’ for ages, just looked and there is only a Caffè Nero option and it’s £4.99 a bag, that’s too expensive, it’s supposed to help people out. Glad you managed to get your train refund, that was a long wait. I hope N has plenty to do during the summer holidays.

    1. I agree I wouldn’t pay that much. Some near me are £7.49 (half the value of the bag supposedly), but it’s dynamic pricing, so presumably would drop nearer the time if noone’s bought them. But it’s not for helping people, it’s for reducing waste. The Starbucks one I had was £3.50 I think, just 1 item would probably have cost that. But there is the risk (like with the Starbucks one), that it’s largely vegan and if you won’t eat what comes in it, then it still ends up wasted unless you have neighbours who’d want them

  4. Ugh! Wasps are the worst! I’ve not seen many here this year which I am happy about.
I hope N got what he wanted for his GCSE options. They have left it late. Eek!
It rained all day here on Saturday and most of yesterday and we’re forecast more today too! I am glad. x

  5. The much cooler weather has been such a relief, hasn’t it?
It’s good that N got his choices. I think you are right about the reason for leaving it until the last minute, high schools are not that great at communication.
    I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend.
