Project 52 2026 week 24

Week 24 of Project 52 has been a bit of a frustrating one, and quite a few people I know have had bad news recently too so some sadness mixed in. But there’s been some planning for fun theatre, days out and catching up with friends going on, so there’ll be some good things to look forward to.

Sunday – had a bit of a lie in. Didn’t have a headache which was miraculous considering I didn’t drink much water yesterday. Efficient trip into town to the 3 places I needed, but did manage to forget the allergy relief tablets N needed. Finished choreographing a line dance to Stella Lefty’s Boston. I love that song.  Caught up on some reading and watchlist tv.

Monday – all the magpies woke me at 4.50 again, and then later. They’re so noisy, and so many of them around at the moment. It’s usually a single pheasant, but 4 magpies are noisier and go on for longer. Got my new work laptop mostly working, but the camera doesn’t seem to work, so calls are very strange not being on screen. 

First strawberry picked from N’s plants. They’re gradually going red. Not all the plants have had flowers, so hopefully those ones are just later, as the others have a few, but I think it’ll just be one strawberry ready at a time. A proper planter area needed I think, or a whole pallet of them.

Tuesday – office day. Stopped to pick up some allergy relief tablets for N before picking up a Too Good to Go treat bag. While Starbucks’ surprise bags seem to be full of vegan food we just won’t eat, the sweet bakery/pastry bags are well worth it. Mine had 4 items, and just one item was a higher value than the bag in total. Then loitered around until dancing. 

It was super hot, warmer than we all thought, and the floor has been so awful and gloopy the last 2 weeks, my knee was hurting. So had to be careful, and will have to watch out in future. It doesn’t help that my spin circles on my shows are now so gunked up, they’re really hard to clean off. Hate rubbish floors in community centres that are shared with pre-school groups.

Wednesday – normal work day. N had a geography mock revision after-school session (the highlight/draw was seemingly never-ending biscuits!) so a bit later tea done in the air fryer. First England World Cup match, and yay we won. 

Thursday – N’s first mock exam. Work was as normal. Dancing in the evening. It was a lot hotter than we all imagined it was going to be. 

Friday – hot day even early on. Dropped a parcel off at our neighbours after the school bus drop off. This week our village mums Whatsapp group has been rife with Evri lost/randomly left parcels. Evidently there was one for our farm left somewhere in the village, someone else was asking if anyone recognised a patch of grass because the photo of where a pile of parcels was left had no wall, fence or door in it. And then our neighbour had hers left on 2 bins…turned out it was ours. Evri have previously been ok round here, but whoever’s been doing the round this week is appalling.

Saturday – I’d planned to go to a flower festival, but woke up to find the OH trying to sort out my car as I had a puncture. He’d found a screw in the tyre. So he took off the tyre, and N and I took it into get it fixed. I had to drive the OH’s automatic which I’ve very rarely done so that was interesting. We got him fuel, then went to the bakery. So it was a bit of a different day to what I expected. Frustrating, but at least the car was then fixed before N’s hair appointment in the afternoon.

N’s decided on a modern mullet (evidently there’s another name for it). I’m not a fan of them at all, but the barber gave him a less obvious one which I was relieved about.

Things I’ve enjoyed this week:

• Watching the World Cup – only a few bits, but go England! And comparing first game results to colleagues in Mexico and Brazil
• Finishing a book that lasted me 3 days, and that I didn’t totally guess the ending. It’s nice to read longer books sometimes, that last me longer than a day to read.
• Laughing at some of the haircuts and outfits in a photo of our secondary school teachers that my brother sent me over. I’ve no idea how he got hold of it, but I couldn’t recognise most of the staff.

Things I’m grateful for this week:

• OH spotting my tyre, and easy to get fixed.
• Getting some washing outdoors
• Thankfully the mock GCSEs are going by fairly unstressed.
