Project 52 2026 week 25

I’m so pleased the temperature is going to drop (slightly) next week. This week’s been horrible, so I’ve not done much, or gone anywhere interesting.

Sunday – hot day. Too warm for me to go to Blenheim flower festival as a postponed trip from yesterday, but as I’d not been able to get to various shops yesterday as planned I had to do those on Sunday. Nipped round fast, then back home to sort washing out (again. Teens get through way too much washing!)

Monday – kids were in PE kit for the week for school, but super hot for mocks. Normal work day trying to keep cool at home. I went to the theatre to see Lord of the Dance 30th anniversary. It’s a show I’ve seen a few times and I love the dancing and singing. But I thought the Michael Flatley adoration at the start and end went on for too long. I felt a bit shortchanged of the actual show.

Tuesday – day in the office and air con which was lovely. Decided not to go dancing, but then it was cancelled due to the heat as so few people would have gone. 

Wednesday – hot hot hot again. Loads of Oxfordshire schools had closed, but ours just over the border stayed open. Ours were on PE kit, but they could also choose non uniform cooler fabrics if they wants. N said his mocks were just too hot and distracting. My other line dancing class was cancelled (unsurprising as the hall is like a sauna even in the winter!). Ate lots of ice creams and lollies, In the evening watched Voicemails for Isabelle, such a lovely romcom, but I cried a lot. Definitely worth a watch if you like those kind of films.

Thursday – N’s school closed as they can’t get the classrooms heat down overnight, kids had fainted, and the workmen on site are kicking up the dust/heat which doesn’t help either. N had some home learning set but other than a small bit of work set, and some revision for his last postponed mock. But other than checking the cows early on, he mainly spent the day on his xbox playing games and talking to his friends. I had a day of trying to get work done before Friday’s day off. 

N had a clay shooting lesson in the evening so dropped him off there. Then obviously picky bits for tea, but not sure the OH was impressed!

Friday – day off as I needed to get my carry over days booked before the end of June. Bit frustrating that many of my days off this year so far have either been miles too hot, or too wet to do anything. N had an inset day, so we headed to M&S early for some bits and pieces, then Sports Direct (which I find too hot most of the year) for bigger size trainers.

N and a friend wanted to go swimming so I’d booked via the app. But then trying to add a third wasn’t an option, then find that the website and reception system was down, so I’m now locked out of my account. And no way of booking. So had to go early to make sure of them getting in. They had a good time, while I read my book in the car with all the windows down and my portable fan going!

N decided not to do tennis as it was just too hot.

Saturday – up early as I wanted to get out before it got too hot. I’d hoped to potentially find a long dress suitable for Wimbledon as it’s going to be hot, but they didn’t have anything I liked in. I did get some sale pjs and some palazzo trousers which I’m loving in this heat. Then to the market for some bread, and a mooch round the plant stall, before farm shop and home. N did bbq’d food for dinner. Then fingers crossed for the England match later.

Things I’ve enjoyed this week:

• Trashy romance books
• Voicemails for Isabelle film
• Watching some of the World Cup, and the socials around it of the English and more often the Scottish fans.

Things I’m grateful for this week:

• My cold blanket. It’s not supercold, but it’s better than a duvet
• Fans!
• Dancing being cancelled, so I didn’t have to miss out
