Project 52 2026 week 26
This week’s had lots going on, slightly cooler but still hot for me. But it’s been a good week for getting out and about. Here’s my week 26 for Project 52.
Sunday – much cooler at around 22C, but still a bit muggy. Realised that the sweat/hot weather combo last week has irritated the skin under my Fitbit, so it’s now all read and raw. So had to move my watch to my left wrist which feels so awful, and irritating when typing. My right wrist obviously doesn’t usually lean on the desk side.
Monday – work and back to school. In the evening I went into Oxford to see the musical, Waitress. It seems the park & ride price of parking only has gone up from £2.50 last time I went in earlier this year to £4.50, which was what it used to cost before this offer of only pay for parking came in.
Of course the theatre was boiling in the lobby and in the second half of the show. But thankfully there was some air con feeling in the first half. I’ve not seen Waitress before – it’s a good plot and show, the singing and acting was good. But I was disappointed with the songs. Usually with a musical you’ll come away singing and remembering at least one. There was one I particularly enjoyed in the performance, but none hooked me and stuck with me afterwards.
Tuesday – back in the office which was quite quiet. I loitered around afterwards until dancing. After the day wasn’t that hot, the dancing was boiling. There’s just no air comes in, although I did work out standing right by one of the fans!
Wednesday – just a normal work day. Realised my missing Evri delivery was actually a sunhat and not my Shark fan. I’m still peeved, because it was one of those strange offers that was get a free hat and just pay for postage. But it’s the postage people who’ve totally cocked it up. So not sure I’ll actually see any refund back from that.
No dancing because obviously we were watching the football. It was a bit tense but a relief to get the win. I don’t think we stand a chance at altitude against Mexico. I think putting matches at altitude is really unfair for basically every team who doesn’t play at it, given they won’t have had time to acclimatise.
Thursday – I had a flexi day off, so after dropping N at the bus stop ahead of his geography field trip, I hung around to pick up an order at Fatface. They were late opening which was frustrating. Then I headed off to Calke Abbey, a National Trust place. The gardens were beautiful, and the house was full of everything furniture, collected objects and a tonne of taxidermy! It’s just been left unfinish and unrestored since the last of the family died out and the National Trust took over. It was interesting to see, and the tunnels under the house were a bit creepy walking through them on my own.
N and a couple of friends stopped off at the local cafe for pizza when they got back from their field trip. I decided not to go dancing as my knee was feeling a bit twingy after quite a bit of walking, plus I wanted to get an earlier night ahead of Friday.
Friday – Wimbledon day. Thankfully this year all the trains and the tube were running smoothly, so we arrived nice and early.. We visited the Wimbledon Museum first which was interesting to see all the nostalgia. We were on court 2 so out in the sun and it was hot. Great seats, and nice to be closer to the action on one of the smaller courts rather than centre or court 1. The first 2 matches were whitewashes and not that exciting to watch. Fonseca got beaten easily by a qualifier playing really well, and Pegula, who I was pleased to see play, was clinical about trouncing her opponent. We also saw Tommy Paul and Hubert Hurkacz, a big server match. A 4 setter, more interesting to watch, but all matches finished by not long after 6.
With no rain this Wimbledon it means there’s no delayed matches to reschedule, so it’s limited on what’s available to watch in the evening. We stuck around to watch some of the doubles going on, but I was a bit tired and hungry after being in the sun all day. So we headed back quite early to catch our train.
On the way home I stopped at some nearby fields to take some photos of the blue phacelia fields in the sunset. But I wasn’t too late getting home. N and I then stayed up late watching Rookie as the OH was out at a leaving do.
Saturday – did my usual rounds, quick Sainsbury’s visit, then bakery, butchers, and home. I was feeling a little headachey all day – mixture of too much sun yesterday, nowhere near as much water as I usually drink, and possibly the Pimms (which was worth it!). Tried to snooze for a bit, but didn’t get much in.
Things I’ve enjoyed this week:
- Wimbledon! And especially the Pimms.
- A day off spent at Calke Abbey
- Waitress – it’s a good show, although I’m pleased I saw it at the start of the week when Carrie Hope Fletcher was performing.
Things I’m grateful for this week:
- The trains all running smoothly on Wimbledon day
- Not getting too burnt on Friday – just caught a little on my face, and random arm patches I must have missed with the sun cream.
- Slightly cooler weather and better sleeping at night
What a lovely week you’ve had. I remember visiting Calke Abbey. It’s a shame that the musical didn’t have better songs, as you said, that should have been the most important thing.
What a great week. The musical sounds good even if the songs weren’t great!
It does seem unfair about England having to play at altitude.

Great action photo, glad the weather has been good for the tennis this year. I’ve not been watching it, or much of the football either, just haven’t been able to get into it no idea why. Shame about the postage with the sunhat, hope it does arrive or you do manage to get your money back without too much hassle.
