Project 52 2026 week 4

It’s week 4 of the year, and I’m managing to up my dancing, although I know that won’t work every week. Work was relatively quiet in some ways because lots of the teams I work with were out in Brazil, I’m sure it’ll be much businer next week. Anyway, here’s what’s been going on with us in Project 52 for this week.

Sunday – I wanted to get a footstool so I can rest my ankle up when I’m in the living room. I’d checked online first at everywhere possible in town because all the delivery options were days to wait (and cost a lot). I couldn’t be bothered to wait for TK Maxx to open (11 is soooo long to wait), and Tesco’s only had white ones in.

Decided to check at The Range on the off chance they had some in stock. Luckily I went for a wander around the top floor, because the one I’d seen online was somewhere totally away from the furniture. And luckily it was light enough to carry down to the tills. It was half price too, so I’ve got a nice footstool with a bit of storage, that will go with our furniture. Hopefully the legs on it won’t dig into the carpet too much.

Monday – sorted out my new footstool, and it’s really nice. It’s too big to put under my desk which would have been good, but that wasn’t the intention anyway. My ankle had felt better in the morning, but then by lunchtime it was more painful again. I think I need to ice and/or deepheat it fast in the hope it’ll be ok for dancing tomorrow. Not sure I’ll make 3 days in a row dancing though.

N made cupcakes because he’s always superhungry at school. He takes in a packed lunch, but still buys food. I think he needs to up the protein. Maybe he needs to batch cook hard boiled eggs to take in.

Tuesday – in the office day, and it was super busy with lots of people in. I hung around after work to wait for dancing. While it means I get somewhere to park without a walk back up the hill after dancing, it’s just that little bit too long to hang around really. I also made the mistake of eating before dancing which I don’t usually do, and felt a bit heartburn during class. So won’t be doing that again. The 2 classes were good though.

Wednesday – went to a different dance class in the evening – same one I tried a couple of weeks ago. The teachers still cut it very fine for the start of class. But I did manage to meeting 1 person, so that’s a start. It’s a really random class though – meant to be improvers, but they do quite a few beginner dances, and then threw in a couple of intermediate ones. Most are similar to what I’ve learnt in the other classes I do, but it’s good to pick up some different ones as well.

Thursday – normal work day. Then dancing in the evening. I was pleased my ankle has held out. Just a bit of pain but more just walking around and going downstairs than when I’m dancing. I’ve strapped it up, so not sure if that’s helping a bit.

Friday – just school and work.  The heavy rain started just before N’s tennis lesson so that was cancelled. It was nice to just stay home and chill out.

Saturday – busy morning trying to get everything done. I was going to the bakery, but the road there was closed, so headed into town instead. Traffic was rubbish thanks to the roadworks. They now have lane closures (they’re becoming bus lanes or wider bus lanes), so junction traffic lights will have to remain separate like now to allow for the right lane sharing the straight on lane, whereas before they were separate lanes. I can’t see any improvements to traffic once it’s complete.

Waste of money for something that will in theory reduce bus times by 2-5 seconds. Yet, people’s cars are being wrecked because they’re not resurfacing roads or filling potholes, and instead spending money on projects that aren’t required/are against consultation results, and on pretty much blanket 20mph even in areas you can’t go faster or have huge verges separating roads/pavements.

Home to prep traybake veg and marinade chicken for tea, as well as making a crumble to put in later. Then off to the cinema to see The Housemaid. I had read the book, but thought the film was very good even knowing what was going to happen. And bargain £3 ticket weekend, as well as £2 max parking thanks to validating my ticket in the cinema complex. A cheap cinema trip.

I needn’t have rushed prepping tea because they were off to the pub after their walkaround end of season shoot a few of them had done on the farm. But it is nice to have everything organised.

Things I’ve enjoyed this week:

  • Finding Her Edge (Netflix ice skating series) and the start of Bridgerton series 4
  • Being in a busy office (and managing to get a seat on my usual pod, thanks to the person who’s booked it every Tuesday for months not actually being in).
  • £3 cinema tickets! And cheaper parking due to cinema venue validation meaning it’s only £2 max. A fiver for an afternoon out at the cinema is a bargain.

Things I’m grateful for this week:

  • My ankle holding up for dancing. It actually feels better during dancing – only in the second hour it gets a bit sore.
  • My new footstool.
  • The evenings (and mornings) are getting lighter. It feels like it’s improved so suddenly.

  1. Oh wow, I have never been to a dance class but one that has both improv, beginners and intermediate dancers sounds really intense to me. All of our town roads are also closed for roadworks, which aren’t getting done in this rain, so getting in and out of town takes absolute ages. It’s horrible. Fingers crossed both of our road works end.

    1. Ah, the dance classes are 3 classes depending on level. But the Wednesday ones combine intermediate/advanced together which is quite a big jump.

  2. It is lovely now the mornings and evenings are lighter. The roadworks round my way are driving me mad also and the pot holes are just mad. Hope the footstool is helping, sounds like the dance classes are going well. The cinema ticket and validate parking is a bargain.

  3. Glad you got your footstool. I think I need one as well for when I’m watching tv.
Hope your ankle keeps getting better and better.
The cinema trip sounds like a great bargain. Glad your enjoyed the film. I haven’t read The housemaid.
These are beautiful blues in the photo.

  4. Glad you manage to find a footstool. Sounds like you’ve had good week with all the dancing and glad your ankle has held out with it all. The roadworks sound very frustrating particularly if there’s not really going to be any real improvement as a result of them. I’ve noticed the lighter evenings and mornings too. #project365

  5. Well done for finding a good footstool so fast and at a good price too. I am looking at furniture and it can be such a pain to find the right one.
It’s great that your ankle allowed you to dance. The cinema outing sounds very good as well.
I am with you on the roadworks and the 20mph limit, it’s just stupid. Usually we leave a place in the evening, having had a day trip or so, and having to drive with 20mph at 9-10 in the evening when is nobody on the streets outside the city centre, when 30mph would have been just as safe is so annoying.

  6. The footstool sounds perfect for your ankle; that was a lucky find.
It’s good that your ankle held up for dancing, hopefully it won’t take too long to fully heal.
I did read The Housemaid, but I can’t remember the plot too much. I might have a re-read before I watch the film.

  7. Good job with the bargain footstool, I hope it helps your foot. The hard boiled eggs are a good idea for N. It sounds like the dancing went well. My eldest went to see The Housemaid on Friday and really enjoyed it, she hadn’t read the book so had no idea what was coming.

  8. The cinema was a real bargain! I’m sorry your ankle is playing up, but well done on finding a footstool. I would like one for when my legs get really painful but I have so much trouble getting up anyway, it would take me forever to answer the door. I guess I could use it in the evening when I don’t have to get up so often.

    1. Yes, the getting up is annoying because ideally you want it flush to the chair (or near enough), but then I have a blanket over, I need to push the stool away, find my slippers and get up.
