It’s week 29 of Project 52, and the last week of school and I’ve not been taking many photos. Really that’s been the theme of my year.

Sunday was relaxing for me. N went out for a 6 mile bike ride with his uncle and managed to hit his 10 miles he was aiming for the month. Evidently he struggled more than the previous week, but unsurprising given he’s had tonsillitis. I just pottered around at home after doing some housework.

Monday was busy at work. It’s been forecasting for the last 2 weeks, but although I’d started my work on it early, other people were leaving it til the last minute to send me changes.

Tuesday was frustrating. N’s tennis private last week didn’t happen because he wanted to do Aussie rules PE lesson instead, so they were going to do a double lesson this week. But the others had all done their 10 weeks, so the coach wasn’t coming in for 1 40 minute lesson. So that’s another lesson owed. N came home with a horsefly bite on his cheek from school. His teacher had also been bitten. It didn’t look too bad that day.

Wednesday was N’s school trip to Blenheim Palace’s Rose Theatre to watch Midsummer Night’s Dream. N wasn’t too fussed (they’d done it for their key stage 2 play last week) and said their school version was funnier. He also wasn’t impressed that Titania was played by a man and Oberon by a pregnant woman. That confused him. His bite was worse today and continued to be bad for the next couple of days.

Thursday was the school garden party and I had a flexi afternoon to go to it. The rain held off, and we got to sit on picnic blankets and chairs while instrumentalists played and the choir did a few songs. N is in the choir – he was so looking forward to it, and they do such cool songs compared to what we did at school.

On Friday, it was my last day in the office before leave so I was frantically trying to get things organised ready for the week I’m back in. The last day of school and I was picking up N and his friend for tennis. Then the rain arrived and we were surprised there was no cancellation notice. They ended up playing in the rain so were a bit wet after 1 1/2 hours playing. But they had fun and us parents could sit in the dry in the pavilion and watch them. We’re already trying to catch up on one cancelled lesson so I suppose they didn’t want to cancel another.

Saturday was a usual Saturday. Backwards and forwards to various shops and places for food, then N’s swimming lesson. He had a good lesson. The teacher had them doing races in various strokes broken down. N won all the 6 different crawl races, and the 2 breast stroke ones. Only losing out on the backstroke race. He also got some compliments on his kick and body position. I’m amazed how in only 2 years, he’s gone from being a child who could do his 10 metres and thrash through a lesson on front and back, to being able to do everything he’s told technically, and not flag in lessons. One of the girls is moving up a group (she’s been in this stage longer and is better on distance), so it’ll be interesting next term to see how many people they move up to N’s group and what the different in ability is, as when N moved up and there wasn’t much difference at all.

I’ve managed to persuade him to stick at lessons at least until December, when I expect he’ll be strong enough distance wise to move up to stage 6. I might just have to let him have a couple of lessons off to go on shoots.

This week’s photo was of N’s bedside table. It was looking a bit ridiculous with antibiotics, bite cream and all the other medicines etc we usually have hanging around.

  4. Ouch to the horsefly bite, they are sore. Well done to N with his swimming. That must be so annoying with the tennis coach not turning up xx

  6. how annoying about the tennis tutor not turning up.
Sounds like he is doing great with his swimming, and that was a good cycle ride.
horse fly bites are nasty things.

  7. Well done to N on the swimming – sounds like he’s really coming along. Hope he’s feeling better now.

  8. Wow, that is a lot of medicines! I hope he is fully recovered now. The school garden party sounds lovely and it sounds like N is doing brilliantly with his swimming.

    • He hasn’t been using the vicks, it’s just always there. But it did look a lot. Usually he’s mega healthy but blooming bugs bite him all the time. He’s got ant bites on his legs as well as the horse fly bite on his face
