Project 52 2026 week 7

It’s been a good week – lots of dancing, some days off, time spent with N which is unusual with a teen and the pull of the farm. I have ended the week with a bit of pain below my ankle rather than the issue I had before which is puzzling. It’s fine walking around, but hurts when I’ve been sitting down and then have to walk on it. Or going downstairs in the morning after waking. Hopefully some cold spray will do the job and ease it off. Anyway, here’s week 7 for Project 52.

Sunday – tipped with rain all day again. Had to go to the farm shop, and get some bread in town, so had a bit of hanging around to do in the car until the shops I needed were open. I was in and out fast though, and back home in the warm and dry again.  It was mostly a day to do laundry like usual though.

Monday – half term, so N was out all day on the farm. A busy working day for me. I was in training in the morning, then lots to do in the afternoon due to having a short week. I did a bit of blogging in the evening, then read.

Tuesday – work day in the office. Quiet in there, but got a lot done before leave. Bumped into a former colleague in Sainsbury’s after work and had a good natter. Then off to dancing.

Wednesday – first day of leave. Just pottered around, nipped into Lidl which is a rarity for me, for their bakery section. I was pleased to see they’ve finally put in self service, so halleluia no queuing with a small basket shop anymore! Miserable weather with it sleeting on the way to dancing.

One of my friends from my other classes had decided to come and try out the intermediate/advanced class, so I stuck around as well. I usually do 2 hours at my other classes, but this meant 2.5 hours in a very hot venue. Everyone in the second class was a lot friendlier than the first class there. We were the only 2 to hang around to the second class. It was quite tough, and they did lots of dances we didn’t know, so I did get a chance to sit down for some of it. But good to see them cover dances I learnt at a November workshop and never danced again. So I’ll get to re go over those too.

Thursday – I’ve had my expiring clubcard vouchers turned into Pizza Express vouchers for a while, and N and I were planning to go into town today to use them. But was a bit later than planned at 12.30 to find they didn’t even have any tables for 2 free until 2pm. I know it was half term, but I’m guessing now they’re down in the same complex as the cinema, mini golf, climbing and everything else, they get so much busier than in the old location.

So we booked for Friday instead, and then headed into the street food area across the canal. I had a burrito and N had burger and chips. I had to take the rest of mine home as it was so big, but had it early afternoon so I didn’t have it too late before dancing. I can never eat beforehand otherwise I feel a bit weird when dancing.

Dancing was good but beginners was super busy. Since January there have about 10 new people, with at least half coming regularly. Given we were missing 9-10 regulars, that’s more than one whole row we need to fit in.  Everyone’s going to need to make their steps smaller to fit everyone into the hall. It’s great to see it so popular.

Friday – on the way to Sainsbury’s I stopped to take pothole photos to upload again to fixmystreet. I’d not ordered a Tesco delivery like usual because I wasn’t sure if I’d be around given I had a few days off. The shop was heaving with lots of pensioners out. A lot cheaper shop than my usual food order, maybe I should start going back into store again.

Went for lunch at Pizza Express for our postponed from yesterday trip. Table was booked for 12.30pm, took 15 mins to take our order, then another 20 minutes to get our starters. Our mains came quite fast, but then someone took about 10 minutes of our server’s time when paying, so it took about 20 minutes to get the bill and pay. It was busy, but not from about 1.30. By the time we left it was after 2 which seems ridiculously long for 2 courses for 2 people.

Quick nip over to the shops for packed lunch treats, validate our parking ticket to get the price cap at £2, then home. Nice lunch, and nice to spend time with N. But crikey, what a wait. Won’t be doing half term lunches there again.

Saturday – went to the bakery (whoop and missed the crowds!), farm shop for meat, and then quick nip into B&M for a couple of bits. The woman at the till got annoyed because I didn’t tell her I was using a gift card…but then she didn’t ask, and just assumed my phone was out to pay. I did say I’ve got vouchers, but she obviously didn’t hear. Then she got annoyed again when I had a second one and again she’d just assumed I was paying the remainder by card. The other check out person had to help her which took all of a second if that to solve her issue.

Spent the rest of the day doing all the washing (again), folding, dishwasher emptying, then read, and caught up on some tv I’d recorded. I’m pleased I’m actually getting through some Netflix things, as well as normal tv recorded bits.

New posts this week:

Things I’ve enjoyed this week:

  • Watching the enjoyment and freedom in Alysa Liu’s ice skating programme at the Olympics. I really like Kaori Sakamoto, but Liu skated with so much joy you couldn’t fail to enjoy her skating and a well deserved gold medal.
  • Finishing a lovely book called Theo of Golden. I recommend it if you’re after a heartwarming read, although I did cry!
  • Flowers – my daffodils lasted well, and now I’ve got tulips too.

Things I’m grateful for:

  • Next day (or nearly next day) online orders for collection. Fast growing teen has gone through 5 pairs of jeans since November, next size needed.
  • Spending time with N – car chats and food
  • A fast (and relatively cheap) food shop.

  1. That’s a familiar looking road surface. I’ve been paying cash for most things this year and it really irritates the staff as they have to change something on the till, they never ask cash or card, jsut set it up for a card payment. Their problem, not mine.

    1. Places round by us (the discounter types) definitely ask if it’s cash or card, I’m guessing they get more people paying cash than bigger shops. But then I think more people are paying cash

  2. Glad you had a good half-term week with dancing and spending time with N. Hope the pain in your ankle is better soon. Glad you enjoyed your lunch with N even though it was slow and busy in Pizza Express. Nice to have that time together though. The potholes on the roads are so annoying – our roads are very similar to yours. Hope yours get fixed soon. #project365

  3. It’s good that the sore ankle didn’t stop any of your dancing this week; it sounds like you did a lot.
I agree that the service is slow at Pizza Express. I hope the food was at least nice.
I’m glad you got to spend some time with N too, I barely see mine in the school holidays.

  4. It sounds like a busy week. I’m quite jealous of you going to dancing class. I think the closest I ever got was dancing along with Cher in the early 90s. I’d wait until the kids had gone to bed, move the furniture to make space and dance in my living room. I did enjoy it, but boy it was hard and Cher was around 14 years older than me at the time!

    1. Can’t beat a bop at home even if you’re unable to get out to classes. Is chair/seated dancing an option? Might have online sessions somewhere if nothing local.

  5. How lovely to spend some time with N! It sounds like a good week. Our Lidl got the self service tills in a few months ago and it makes things much easier if you don’t have much. Ugh to the potholes!
