Project 52 2024 week 31

It’s week 31 of Project 52, I’ve had a week off work, and a lot of Olympics viewing. I love it, and don’t know what I’ll do while I’m back at work the following week! Here’s my week.

Sunday – I had a bit of a lie in (well, reading my book), then off to pick up bits we needed after not being around yesterday. I’m struggling to find polo shirts for N. M&S don’t have the ones we usually get in stock, and their mens ones are a) double the price and b) don’t come in an XS. TK Maxx only had designer priced ones. So back online and found a couple that should be ok. Spent the rest of the day watching the Olympics.

Monday – first day of my leave. Quite a hot day at around 28C. I was meeting up with a friend in the morning. We were meeting at a local garden centre cafe, we’d checked it out for gluten free, and had intended to go and have brunch. But on arrival, they weren’t serving food other than cakes, then the only remaining gluten free cake had nuts in. Which they didn’t know about (it was a seeded flapjack), so had to take ages trying to find the ingredients. Eventually they found a label and confirmed it was fine. But luckily my friend checked it again, and saw it had almonds in. Nightmare.

We had a nice few hours sitting outside (with views of a play area rather than the fields I’d anticipated) catching up.

Tuesday – I took it easy. Quick nip into town for some top up shopping, then Olympics, reading and catching up on tv series. Chatted to our neighbour in the evening while N and her granddaughter played football and cricket.

Wednesday – N was out on the farm again. It’s still been really hot, too hot to spend much time outside. He went swimming with his cousin. Then football training started back again in the evening, a few were missing, but no new players came to try out. Tough playing in the heat, but they did ok. I had a chat to one of the mums.

Thursday – I’d booked to go to the flower festival at Cotswold Farm Park and it was open dated. I was hoping to meet another friend on Friday, so decided to walk the flowers on Thursday. After a few closed roads, I was there just after opening and it was already hot. It was only supposedly 24C but felt so much hotter. I can’t deal with the heat at all nowadays. The wildflowers were lovely, but the sunflowers didn’t have many out yet. It was still lovely to walk round and pretty quiet compared to other places.

N had got hold of some sheeting so made a slip and slide. It just about worked, and he and his cousin spent 2 hours outside on it. Now he’s got even grander ideas.

Friday – wasn’t the day I’d hoped so it was another lazy one with the Olympics on. The boys had the slip and slide out again although N’s ended up sunburnt on his back and shoulders. He’d put sun lotion on so I think the wind didn’t help as he’s never burnt before. He had the last catch up tennis session of the year. They’d been told to come earlier – only 2 of them were available from their group, so they ended up being put in with the younger group. We (and they) weren’t impressed, but they did generally play on different courts before getting the lobster machine out for all of them to have a go on. That’s the last session with that coach, and we don’t know what’s happening in September as they’ve currently got no coach.

Saturday – headed into town with N for the bakery and a couple of other items. We didn’t buy the mince I needed because it’s all vacuum packed in Sainsburys (and didn’t have the usual Aberdeen Angus one we usually have if not buying from the butchers), and looked gross. Nice like actual minced beef at all. N went off to play tennis with his cousin while I sorted out some banking stuff, having to open a new fixed ISA to try and get a better rate for when savings account rate start to reduce again. Already one of mine has, literally on the day the Bank of England reduced the rate.

  • It’s all been about the Olympics. A great first week for GB.
  • Catching up with a friend I’ve not seen for a while
  • Back to football training, back to more of a social life.

Things I’m grateful for:

  • Easier quicker healthier meals this week as it’s been hot weather.

  1. Must admit I haven’t watched much of the Olympics this year. But did end up watching some of the weightlifting while I was at the parents house.

    Love the wildflower meadow!

  2. Lovely to have time off and enjoy watching the Olympics. That’s not good with the cake at the garden centre – they should have definitely been more aware of allergens. Hope N’s not been too sore with the sunburn. I don’t like the vacuum packed mince – it doesn’t seem to break up as well when cooking. The flower fields look pretty. #project365

    1. That’s frustrating with the mince. We put ours on low all day (or at least all afternoon), so it breaks up really well. But I can see why it wouldn’t do so well when it’s been packed together tightly.

  3. Always nice to catch up with a friend. Shame about the lack of Gluten free products. I’ve given up being able to eat out in most places now and tend to take my own cake with me. N’s sunburn sounds sore. I’m like you, I just can’t take the heat these days.

  4. The wildflower meadow is so beautiful. It reminded me of one of the pictures I am considering buying for the bathroom. It looks peaceful.
I’m watching the Olympics too, so many interesting sports.

  5. I am loving watching the Olympics too, I have found myself watching sports I wouldn’t usually just because we’re in the running for a medal.
Ugh! That cafe doesn’t sound good. It is lucky your friend checked the ingredients.
The slip and slide sounds like a lot of fun! I remember making one with my brother when we were younger, we got such a telling off for taking all the washing up liquid. We needed to make it slippy. lol x
