Project 52 2025 week 16

It’s been a nice week. Slightly quieter in the latter days for work, and lots of exciting things going on for me with the theatre and line dancing. Here’s my week 16 of Project 52.

Sunday – N had a Young Driver’s lesson. It was his third, although he does drive around a bit in various vehicles on the farm. I think it’s good for him to get proper instruction inbetween to avoid too many bad habits he’ll pick up. This time the instructor had him doing lots of reversing and getting into 5th gear.. Reversing in a figure of 8 around 2 cones (I’m not sure I could do that!), and various other reversing manouevres. Definitely progress since last year’s lesson.

We stopped off at Nike Outlet place near there to get him some moulded football boots for the summer into autumn. Bargain, although I was hoping he’d go for something more exciting than black.

Monday – first day of half term and it was TB testing on the farm (thankfully all clear later in the week), so N was out helping all day. I was working.

Tuesday – N was car washing. He’d put another note in the village enewsletter, and is now a bit overwhelmed with the custom. He’s got bookings but now needs to work out who’s going to get him to their houses when I’m in the office next week. The OH will have to take him, or he’ll have to rebook.  This time, the person brought their car here which was handy. It definitely looked a lot better afterwards. Although his foam pump broke (again – he’d already had a replacement, and then the OH had fixed the 2nd one that broke). He’s given up on that make and had to order one from elsewhere).

No line dancing for me, as I went to the theatre to see Cruel Intentions. I was sitting next to another woman who was on her own so we had a good old natter about theatres, shows. It turned out they’d closed the dress circle, so she’d been moved down to the stalls. They must have been struggling for ticket sales (even with it being the first night) because it was busy in the stalls but we still had a mostly empty row in ours. It’s sad because it was quite a good show and it wasn’t massively expensive (although I had got a half price discount with my ATG+ card).

Wednesday – such a windy day. At football training, the few kids there did a keepy uppy challenge to do 360 keepy uppies for a children’s cancer charity. They’re not N’s strong point, so it was lucky they did it as a team.

In the evening. the dog escaped the kennel, run and garden (including the electric fence that’s meant to keep her in there) and ran to ours to hide under my car. Luckily I spotted her, then heard the fire engine siren. So not only is she scared of fireworks and gunshots, but also sirens. She ended up pushing her way into the house, onto the sofa. She really didn’t want to leave even for food! The OH had to drag her out to take her back. I don’t understand why she escapes rather than just hunkering down inside the kennel.

Thursday – In the evening, I went out to try a different line dancing venue run by my normal teacher. It’s a much quieter village hall venue – only 15-16 people. But everyone was so friendly. One person even comes round selling eggs – so ‘village’ life! I also stayed for their improver lesson which only cost another £1. Absolute bargain. It was a lot of new dances learnt in one evening – 5 in beginners and 2 in improvers which are quite a step up. I mostly coped ok. Now I understand why so many people have been in my normal beginners class for over a year. If you’re not used to learning dances and know the steps from other dance styles, it would be so difficult to learn.  I think I’m going to go to both venues in future.

Friday – bank holiday. Earlyish Tesco delivery, then into town to get bits I needed. Couldn’t get N new school trousers to replace his hole in the knee pair as there were no regular style trousers in M&S in his size. I’ll have to order online. I hate our out of town M&S – the old smaller store in town always had school uniform stock in the size I wanted. This one never does. Otherwise fairly relaxing day as N was out helping on the farm and making hot cross buns with his gran like he always does on Good Friday.

Saturday – N went for breakfast/brunch with his uncle, cousin and Gramp.  I had a slight lie in, then headed to the farm shop for meat, market for bread, and nipped into a couple of other shops for bits I needed for the long weekend. I got organised and prepped tea, including a rhubarb crumble, and apple crumble (for those in the house who won’t eat rhubarb). Otherwise I caught up on blogging, read and did a bit of my jigsaw which has been taking weeks in short stints.

New posts this week:

Things I enjoyed this week:

  • new line dancing class
  • chatting to a fellow musicals and theatre lover
  • seeing the Simmental heifers out in the field behind. They’re N’s pedigrees, and so pretty. Nice to see the cows out in the fields again after winter.

Things I’m grateful for:

  • bargain price of line dancing for 2 classes.
  • an easily entertained teen who looks after himself in school holidays.
  • a windy day not being too destructive and everything staying upright.

  1. Sounds like the one dancing is lots of fun for you and you’ve found the right place that suits you. Shame the theatre was so empty, especially as the ticketing was well priced. poor dog, ours would go into panic at those sounds also.

  2. N sounds like he did well with his Young Driver’s lesson and the car washing business sounds like it’s all going very well too! Glad that the TB testing on the farm was all clear. What a shame that there weren’t better ticket sales for the show. Nice to learn some more new dances at the line-dancing class and to join in with the improvers class too. Lovely photo of the blossom. #project365

  3. Young driver lessons sound great. And it’s lovely to hear N’s business is doing well with lots of bookings.
The line dancing lessons were a good deal. I’ll check out your show review post. Shame it wasn’t better attended, but glad that you had a lovely chat with a fellow theatre goer.

  4. Isaac has done a few young driver lessons but not sure he got up to 5th gear. He starts to learn to drive for real next week #eek
The line dancing sounds fun, I really should find myself a hobby. Hope you enjoyed Cruel Intentions x

  5. The Young Driver lesson for N sounds fantastic. It sounds like he is a natural driver!
I am glad the TB testing on the farm went well.
Well done to N, it sounds like the carwash business is going well.
