Project 52 2026 week 9
It’s been a bit of a breather of a week with a couple of days off work, so some more chilled out vibes, nice drives across different countryside and days out. Here’s my week 9 for Project 52.
Sunday – nice chilled out day. Asda is the only place that still does proper no vpl knickers with a waistband, so I headed there. It’s a bit of a trek but worth it if I need to stock up. Picked up a few bits and pieces, before heading home. Made a mixed berry crumble, then started watching Lincoln Lawyer which I need to get caught up on from series 2.
Monday – annual leave day, glorious sunshine and warm weather. I’d decided to visit The Firs National Trust, which is where the composer Edward Elgar was born and lived for a couple of years. For a (former) musician it was really interesting (and I got to tinkle the ivories on his piano).
I then headed into Worcester to see the cathedral and grab some lunch before heading back for bus pick up. It was a lovely day out, although shame that other places I wanted to see weren’t open on Mondays.
Tuesday – working day, then dancing in the evening. Good classes, but crikey it was hot as it had been quite a warm day for the time of year.
Wednesday – flexi leave day. I decided to stay closer to home and go to the cinema. I had my choice of parking on pretty much the whole floor of the car park. Grabbed a Costa and quick read of my Kindle beforehand.
Then with my discounted cinema ticket, I was the only person in the screen watching Wuthering Heights. I’ve never read the book, but thought the film was good, although there were no likeable characters. Looking up the book afterwards I was surprised at how much more disturbing the book’s original plot was, considering people were saying the film was toxic.
Went dancing in the evening. I’ve got even more dances to learn that I don’t know for the 2nd class. Crikey they get through a lot of dances in one evening compared to my other classes where it takes ages for people to get/remember the new dances we learn. So the old ones don’t get danced much so you forget them.
Thursday – in the office for another busy day. Traffic around town was horrendous thanks to the roadworks, and then the additional road closure just near work. I can’t see what they’re doing actually improving anything from how it is during the works. Whoever agreed it in the county council going against all the consultation results and locals, has no clue what carnage the traffic will be like, all for about 5 seconds time saving for buses.
Evening dancing. Felt a bit tired. Yet more new people turned up, so less space to dance as so many of them have no awareness of the space around them, taking huge steps. But a good class.
Friday – heavy day at work, and pretty much a normal working day rather than my short day it should be. Weird to have a lunchtime Tesco delivery – and totally mucked up my lunch timing because I waited til normal time then didn’t want to heat it up until I knew my delivery was coming or here, otherwise it wouldn’t have been nice cold.
A local pizza takeaway tea which was expensive but nice, with yummy free doughballs. Might be expensive, but at least it covers leftovers for lunch the next day too.
Pothole sagas continue. I saw the county council van in the village on Wednesday. They must have come out the next day but only fixed one hole in the village on Thursday afternoon. They’ve left every single other hole in the area, many reported ahead of this one. Including the 2 massive ones right in the road they’d have driven past, where you turn into the school and doctor’s surgery road. Unsurprisingly they also ignored our road which has multiple reports especially at another junction. What a waste of time and lack of efficiency.
Saturday – needed to get petrol for the week ahead. No petrol or diesel in most pumps at Tesco, only 4 pumps working and queues so couldn’t be bothered to wait. All was as normal at Sainsbury’s though. Picked up an order for N (growing like a weed) from M&S, then off to the bakery (amazingly managed to get in the car park there which is usually impossible), and the farm shop for meat (also timed it well there).
Spent the rest of the day doing bits and pieces like laundry, and the dishwasher. Made a key lime pie for dessert, prepped an easy dinner. Then read and caught up on more Lincoln Lawyer.

New posts this week:
Things I’ve enjoyed this week:
- Visit to Worcester and The Firs National Trust
- Private cinema showing aka an empty cinema
- Sniggering on the back row with other regulars at a horrendous ‘classic’ line dance complete with cheesy, supposedly funny spoken lines. Yep, not my idea of fun, although all the newbies thought it was great.
Things I’m grateful for this week:
- Better sleep according to my fitbit
- Freebie books back in January fill your Kindle, because I’m racing through all the regency romances I’d downloaded
- Nice weather on my days off

The Firs National Trust sounds like an interesting place to visit. Sounds like you’re enjoying learning all the new dances – it does sound like there’s always a lot to learn with your classes. The roadworks and pothole sagas sound very frustrating. It does seem to be hit and miss which ones get repaired – we have the same trouble. Beautiful photo of the cathedral. #project365
I had my graduation at Worcester Cathedral, I was there today in the Starbucks opposite, such a lovely building to visit. Don’t get me started on the potholes. Half the ones they fill they haven’t sealed properly, it’s a nightmare.
Looks like a lovely week of cultural events. The cathedral look majestic. The trip to Elgar’s place sounds fascinating.
I read Wuthering Heights many years ago, and detested all the characters. Won’t be watching the new film, after seeing a trailer, decided it’s not for me. There is a version with Ralph Feinnes and Juliette Binoche, which is pretty good, though I also saw it many years ago.
I’m in awe at the amount of books you have read. Not that I’m stalking you, but every time I add a book to my reading challenge on Goodreads, it shows me your score, and I feel like I can’t compete with you. 🙂
Lol, I do read fast, but I also am hooked on romances, so they’re superfast to read. I need to get back into my crime books, and some from way back on my tbr that are 700 pages, They’ll take me a few days or longer to get through.
Worcester Cathedral looks beautiful! Will have to look out for those vpl knickers at Asda on my next trip back to the UK 🙂
I always buy my knickers from Asda and have for years. The The Firs National Trust visit does sound interesting! It sounds like you had a really nice week. I don’t mind paying a bit extra for a takeaway if there are leftovers for the next day. They are working hard fixing pot holes here but not on the main roads, just on the side roads. Ugh!
Our main roads through town are terrible too – they’re not even fixing those. We don’t have an Asda nearby so it’s a bit of a faff going there. The ones I really like are more like shorts, but they no longer do those. The ones I bought still aren’t great unfortunately. Too much lace rather than just round the waist, so show through trousers (jeans would be ok), or high leg isn’t my best cut. So I’m still trying to find similar to my ones I really like.
What a nice week you have had. I love it when the cinema is virtually empty, it is like a private screening.
I keep hearing about The Lincoln Lawyer everywhere. I will have to have a look at it.
The cathedral looks stunning inside. I love visiting places with so much history.
Best thing going to the cinema in the day, although not many showings are morning, so it means I don’t have time to get out for school bus pick up time.
