Winter wonderland – what makes winter so special?
The temperature’s due to drop here this evening, and being out in the countryside we do tend to see some of the colder temperatures in our region. We’re also just getting the advent calendar ready so that means we’re out of the mellow mists of autumn and into the frosty ice-scraping mornings of winter.
What makes the winter season a winter wonderland…
Clear blue skies and crisp frosty weather
Snuggling under fluffy blankets
Hot chocolate
Big winter coats
Wearing boots (of any kind)
Locating matching gloves for driving
Christmas jumpers and sparkly tops
Static hair – damn that central heating and having fine hair
Advent excitement
Christmas events – winter wonderland, light displays, Christmas light switch ons, decorated National Trust houses
Christmas shopping
Christmas markets
Visiting Father Christmas
Listening to Christmas music
Putting up the tree
Making decorations
Setting out the nativity set
Fairy lights
Carol singing
Mince pies
Cheese and crackers
Nativity plays
Too many Christmas lunches and dinners (I always choose turkey!)
Christingle service – oranges with cocktail sticks, fruit, monkey nuts and candles
Holidays off work and school
Putting a drink and mince pie out for Father Christmas
Wrapping presents
Stockings filler fun
Midnight mass
Bucks fizz
Christmas
Turkey and all the accompaniments
Singing the 12 days of Christmas (including the alternative version)
Christmas dinner leftovers with cold meats
Looking forward to a new year
Pantomime – live or on tv
New year’s day concerts on tv
Building a snowman (maybe)
The prettiness of snow – if I could have it just in the garden and fields and nowhere else, I would like it more
For us personally:
Christmas eve dinner in the pub
Christmas day tea of leftovers with all the family
New Year’s day with friends
Lots of Christmas parties at dancing (I think I’ve currently got 5 booked in for December so far).

I am not a fan of winter, mainly because I really feel the cold and can never get warm. But I love Christmas and now we have moved house I feel like we can start getting ready for it. Thank you for joining us at #SharingtheBlogLove x

We moved to the US three years ago and so many of these things don’t exist here. It’s just not the same!! #SharingtheBlogLove
That’s a shame. Maybe you need to start some of them.

Thanks Sian. Yes, the run up to Christmas is so special and this morning’s frost and sunrise was just perfect winter for me!
