Project 52 2025 week 11

Mish mash of a week this time. It looks like I need to start working out better meal plans now the evenings are going to be getting lighter and the OH will be working later. Any ideas for good meals that will keep warm/are good for reheating are welcome. Anyway here’s my week 11 for Project 52.

Sunday – a productive day. Farm shop, then into town to pick up a delivery, and a couple of other things. Back home and got some chores done – vacuuming, dishwasher unloading, 2 wash loads on and hung up to dry. In the afternoon N and I planted out some more bulbs and seeds. The ones I planted back in September/October don’t seem to have even sprouted at all, although the daffodils and tulips have. Some of what we planted won’t come out til next year as we were late planting them. But we’ll see about the rest which are meant to be summer blooms. I also chucked around some old bee and butterfly seedballs I found in a drawer in the corner and in a muddy patch, so we’ll see if anything comes from those and the wildflower seeds. Or whether the birds will get them first.

Monday – bizarrely N’s bus journey sometimes gets charged at only £2.50 on the way home, but the rest of the time it’s at the £3 cap level. So I’ve asked them to confirm what the young person’s price should be, because the website says from £2.50, but when you click in it just changes to the adult price being the £3. Fingers crossed it should be the £2.50, that’d be a nice saving each day.

Tuesday – I ached a bit today, definitely ached more during my line dancing class. No new dances, but fitted in most of the others we’ve learnt.  We must be getting fairly close to the end of our 12 weeks.

Wednesday – I was in the office for work. Had lunch with my old line manager which was nice to catch up. Then after work N wanted to go to Tesco because he’d heard a Karcher washer was on discount with £51 off making it a lot cheaper than everywhere else sellingit. He was happy to get that, so now he’s all set with his gear. He just needs to get more regular ongoing customers now, as they’re a bid sporadic.

Thursday – such a chilly day I had to put my fingerless gloves back on to work. I dug a couple of boxes of crispy duck pancakes out of the freezer to have for tea. N really liked them, the OH I’m not so sure. But it was nice to have something different as we don’t eat chinese food usually because I’m the only one who’ll eat it.

We had the good news that after Easter the tennis club coaching has finally been confirmed as being taken over by the person I suspected would. She’s been taking over all the other clubs in the area so it was a nobrainer. We’re just hoping it’s one of her coaches that the boys will like. I’m rallying to get the boys a session sorted. So we’ll see what age groups she does, and hopefully there’ll be an older/intermediate session added as they won’t want to train with beginner 10 year olds. She has a large coaching staff, so if he buckles down, he might be able to do his level 1 coaching through her as he’d quite like to do that to have opportunities to help out over summer camps etc.

Friday – Looks like most of the boys are signing up to tennis and there’s a 13+ improver group for them. Hopefully they’ll not get too put off by having a stricter (I expect) coach. I had a headache so really didn’t want to cook. But the farm work at the moment is now onto later work to get it done, so a lot of easy quick meals aren’t really good for reheating later. I need to rethink our meals for longer evenings of work again.

Terrible tv signal again – seems never ending at the moment. Unfortunately the swanky Samsung tv the OH bought a while back doesn’t include Freely which is streamed Freeview, so we basically get no ‘terrestrial’ channels which is mostly what we watch when the signal is down. I want to get someone to check and replace our tv aerial. Frustrating that there’s all this extra cost because going to digital was terrible for tv signal in my opinion. Rubbish when it’s high pressure, snowing and foggy.

Saturday – nipped to the bakery stall early to get bread and pastries. Then back for a home football match. This was a bit of a grudge match due to an unlucky 1-0 loss last time round. This time we didn’t really have the oomph that we had last week, but it was pretty even and it was good to get at the draw. N had a car cleaning job booked – just the inside, so it was fast. He’s loving his storage trolley our neighbour gave him – although unfortunately it won’t fit in a car to be able to take it with him to jobs.

No new posts this week. I really need to get back to writing them.

Things I’ve enjoyed this week:

  • Moving back to crime and thrillers rather than more romance which I’ve got a bit sick of.
  • Working in the office.
  • The anticipation of bulbs and seeds growing (fingers crossed the frost didn’t get them)

Things I’m grateful for this week:

  • New tennis coaching starting after Easter. No rusty rackets classes, but you never know…
  • A better week so far for Fantasy League.
  • Not aching too much after gardening.

  1. I love seeing where the bulbs will pop through every year, I always forget where I’ve planted them. Going to throw some seeds on a patch of soil that’s bare. Sounds like N is all set now for his car washing business good luck to him. Hope you get to the bottom of the bus prices. I’ve been reading too many chick lots, need to switch to a crime/thriller soon, usually Lee Child is my ‘go to’ I’m making a Mexican stew right now in the slow cooker, always over make my meals, freeze and just reheat in the microwave. I eat it with rice as well as a curry. Chicken and leek bake, sausage casserole always reheat well with some mash and veg. I’m doing a roast dinner for tomorrow and will plate up a spare for Monday and just make fresh gravy after popping that in the microwave also.

  2. Hope the bulbs and seeds you planted do well and that N’s car wash business picks up a bit more. That’s good news about the tennis coaching. The TV signal issues sound frustrating. The storage trolley for N’s car wash stuff looks good, shame it’s not transportable though! #project365

  3. That is a good deal for a Karcher washer. We have one and the kids always fight over who is cleaning the patio. Hope you get the bus fares sorted

  4. Good luck to N in getting some regular customers, it sounds like he’s more than ready and very organised.
Crime and thrillers are my favourite genres, there are so many great ones to choose from. I hope you enjoy the change.
Fingers crossed for the bulbs and seeds, I hope they have survived.

  5. I can’t think of anything apart from soups and stews that would be good at reheating. Pasta wouldn’t, unless it’s a pasta bake? Casseroles? I get Taste of Home emails from the days when we lived in the States, they have loads of recipes for casseroles.
Hope your bulbs will give you flowers.
The trolley looks spacious and useful for all the equipment.
Reading-wise, it’s mostly thrillers for me and historical fiction, and ghost stories.

  6. I’ve found that anything from a slow cooker is good for keeping warm. Chili Con Carne, casseroles and pulled pork.
I hope your bulbs come through, my dad has daffodils out the front of his and they were late coming out this year.
Good on N for looking for bargains, £51 off a Karcher is great and it sounds like the car cleaning is going well. The storage trolley looks very professional. x

    1. yes, bolognese and stews are handy, I use the aga when that’s already on. OH won’t eat chili which is annoying, or sausage casserole otherwise they would be good.
