Retro Love Hearts sweets hit 60
At the Midlands blog meet last week, we were lucky enough to have received goody bags to take away with treats from the sponsors. One such sponsor was Swizzels Matlow and we chomped quickly through the drumstick squashy sweets in the bag.
N’s not really given sweets, but as we were away and he seemed permanently hungry, dipping into the bag occasionally wasn’t going to make him too full before meals. The squashy ones are great as I don’t have to worry about him swallowing boiled sweets. I saved the mini Love Heart rolls for myself though – he’s not getting hold of those! There’s too much fun to be had reading all the newer tags and comparing them to what used to be written on them when I was a child.
Love Hearts celebrate their 60th anniversary this year, and to celebrate there’ve got a great competition running at the moment. You can design your own Love Heart, upload it, and the ten winners will get their Love Heart made during a visit to the Swizzels Matlow factory (If you’ve never been round a confectionery factory, I can tell you now, it’s brilliant fun).
I had a go at personalising my own Love Hearts…choosing my colours and then the two lines of text.
As you can see, I’m not the most inventive (all my phrases I could think of were way too long to fit), but I’m determined to think of something more exciting to enter the competition myself. Maybe I could get some N-isms on one?
Or you could potentially use some of the Love Hearts history? I’m not too sure about my decade of birth, when Love Hearts alternative Hippy Bits were launched to tie in with the flower power era.
I’m off to eat my Love Heart Squashies in the hope of inspiring my entry.
What was your favourite Love Heart message?
Disclosure: I was sent some Love Hearts, but all words and thoughts are my own.
