What love is…when you have children

Love is...settig them free - Bubbablue and me

When I was a girl, one of the chores we had to do was the drying up on a Sunday.  Of course it was drying up minus dishwashers.  We always fought over the best tea towels and one of my favourites was the Love Is…cartoon strip one. It was a cartoon of a little couple and a range of lines that showed what love is.  It was started in the 1960s by New Zealander Kim Casali as little notes to… Continue Reading “What love is…when you have children”

Living Arrows 2017 week 2 – gappy smiles

smiling gappy smile - Living Arrows

If there’s one thing that N does really well, it’s lose teeth.  The new year has started with lots of gappy smiles. He’s not quite six yet, and on Friday tooth number 6 fell out at school.  So the tally is 2 swallowed, 2 lost (on the farm and on a shoot), and 2 brought home from school. At the moment he has a double gap up top. Although the tooth that fell out over Christmas’s replacement is already well… Continue Reading “Living Arrows 2017 week 2 – gappy smiles”

Tips on avoiding having a fussy eater through childhood

I might have been a fussy eater when I was a child, but now I love food.  I can’t deny that.  And that’s why, when I hit 28 and my metabolism went to post, I’ve found it easy to put on weight.  That,  and moving in with the OH who does a physical job and can eat anything without too much worry, and reduced exercise. As a child, I wouldn’t eat onions (I used to pick them out of spaghetti… Continue Reading “Tips on avoiding having a fussy eater through childhood”

Hugs and kisses, and pretty girls

tree hugging

I was never a demonstrative child.  As far back as I can remember I hated when people came to visit and said ‘Give xyz a kiss’.  As I got older I wasn’t even keen on giving my mum a hug and kiss.  That just wasn’t me, although I did get a bit better the older I got. I’m also better with friends now, mostly because I think people are more huggy on meeting nowadays, and lots of my friends just… Continue Reading “Hugs and kisses, and pretty girls”

Living Arrows 2015 week 29 – thinking

thoughtful - living arrows

N had his last ‘official’ nursery school day last week, which included sports day, getting a leavers certificate and book, having a leavers party lunch and then water play in the afternoon.  Needless to say after that, and a busy week, he was a little tired. That didn’t stop him from scavenging a drink leftover from the party.  N is obsessed with any sports top bottles, I’ve no idea why.  I grabbed this photo of him looking really thoughtful after… Continue Reading “Living Arrows 2015 week 29 – thinking”

A lie in solution…the sleeping bag

sleeping bag the lie in solution

I’ve always said that clock changes don’t seem to impact N and it would appear that this spring’s has gone the same way.  N went to bed the same as usual the night before, and woke up at normal (the new) time of 6.15ish. Then Sunday evening he tried to get out of going to bed.  That’s pretty normal, once he’s upstairs it’s not a problem and he’ll happily get into bed.  He didn’t seem too worried that at 7.30… Continue Reading “A lie in solution…the sleeping bag”

Snow and Tell at the Story Museum Oxford

christmas present filled red phone box

Over the Christmas period I wanted to take N to the pantomime, but couldn’t get a matinee ticket as they were all sold out.  So I looked around for somewhere else similar to take him. Someone mentioned the Story Museum in Oxford and I saw they had Snow and Tell sessions over the Christmas holidays. With tickets booked and received, we made our way to Oxford.  N had told me he didn’t want to go, so I had to tell… Continue Reading “Snow and Tell at the Story Museum Oxford”

Quirky Wanda and the Alien

wanda and the alien go camping

N has his tv favourites, and although the new Wanda and the Alien launched at the end of August, we hadn’t yet spotted it on the schedules.  After being sent a book Wanda and the Alien go Camping, and some sample episodes to review, I think N has found another show he enjoys. As soon as he spotted the dvds, they were removed from the sleeves and put into the dvd player.  This show is definitely a little quirky, but it’s… Continue Reading “Quirky Wanda and the Alien”
