Project 52 2026 week 19

Quite a tiring week this week, not sure why as it wasn’t particularly different to other weeks and I had been sleeping in til quite near my alarm. Maybe a few earlier nights are needed. Here’s what’s been going on for Project 52 this week.

Sunday – had to nip to town to get N some new swimshorts. I’d ordered some online but he was heading swimming so needed them sooner than they were turning up. Got a couple of other bits while there – trekking round different places to get everything. Took N to the pool after lunch – he and a friend were meeting there. Then back to get the roast on. The OH was out mowing most of the day, so N and I had chance to watch more of The Rookie, then we made some sausage rolls for the next few days (might save me having to put so much money on N’s ‘finger’ for food at school).

Monday – sileaging afternoon on the farm. After work I had a PTSA meeting. We’re going to try and hold on for another year, but give notice that after next year if noone steps up to run it and/or join, then it’ll finish. It’s sad, but with several parents having kids leave, and having done it for several years, there won’t be enough to run it.

Tuesday – I wrote another line dance. Or more like finished it – it’s been floating around trying to work out the timings for ages, and my friend who’s song it’s for liked it.  Dancing in the evening was good – but frustrating how everyone turns up late and joins the back ro when there’s more space in other rows. So I just move around where there’s space.

Wednesday – N had to meet me at work after school for his orthodontist appointment. He’s not been wearing his retainers at night because the top one always fell out, or he unknowingly takes it out in the middle of the night. So it’s been adjusted, but now doesn’t sit right against his teeth because he’s not been wearing it. But given it used to fall out when he did wear it, there’s not much else he can do. So back in 8 months for hopefully the last time. I suggested he wear the bottom clear one at night as that impacts his speech, and then the old school retainer top one in the day time when he can keep it in better. But whether he will when he’s at school is another matter.

Thursday – dropped N at the bus stop, then a quick early trip to M&S as it was the final day to pick up a school uniform order. I’m sure you used to be able to have more than 5 days to collect. Super frustrating when I’m always in town at the weekend in the mornings, then I leave only to get home and find an email saying my order’s now available to collect. I’d never go to the out of town shopping centre in the afternoon, as the car park is always rammed at that time. And after work didn’t have time thanks to all the roadworks and delays around town.

Dancing after work was good, but I definitely didn’t do as much as normal as I didn’t reach 10k steps like I usually do. And didn’t get as hot.

Friday – short work day, got quite a bit done. Cold day again, and on and off showers, but ended dry so N’s tennis lesson was on. The other mum didn’t run, so we had a good natter. I tracked down some more books for my reading challenges on Goodreads, although most of them cost more than I’d ever spend on an ebook. So I’ll keep a watch and see if they reduce them down at all.

Saturday – quick nip to the shops then pottered around at home. N stayed home alone while we were out at a 21st birthday party. Eek, so weird thinking so many of our friends children are already that age. Couple of the roads by us have had their surfaces redressed, and had nearly got home at 11.30 to find the police and recovery vehicles removing a car from a hedge. Reckon it must have happened just after we’d drive through on the way, and probably as it was fresh redressing had skidded off the gravelly surface. Bit of a hold up waiting to get home but not too long and no diversions needed.

Things I’ve enjoyed this week:

  • watching the next generation being a bad influence and encouraging our generation into shots!
  • plenty of reading time
  • nice Friday night pizza

Things I’m grateful for:

  • a very short annual review session
  • free books – when you read as many as I do, even buying 99p books gets extortionate.
  • having driven to the party, meant we could leave when we were ready rather than having to wait for others.

  1. I’ve been catching up with series 8 of the The Rookie as I’m visiting my son and we don’t have it as part of our Sky subscription. I find all the online ordering so frustrating, you shouldn’t have to be ordering new school uniform now, what’s wrong with having it in the stores 2 weeks before they go back to school, it used to work that way for us when our kids were in school in the 2000’s, seems to me since the invention of this online world that things have actually stopped working or become more complicated or I’m just getting old

    1. Stores themselves only seem to have skinny trousers in N’s size, so we have to order the regular cut online. Or they might only have 1 left in his size. Considering M&S is a huge out of town store, the in stock range is awful compared with the old closed down in town shop.

  2. Hope that you manage to get some people to step up for the PTSA. It would be a shame for it to finish. That’s annoying with N’s retainer falling out – hopefully your suggested solution works for him. Love your photo this week – so gorgeous with the sun’s rays against the flowers. #project365

  3. I love the photo you have used this week, it’s beautiful.
That’s a shame about the PTSA, but I imagine it’s quite a commitment to keep.
I just can’t get on with Kindle reading. I have a book on the go on mine that I’ve been trying to read for 6 months. I think I just prefer a paper copy.

    1. I couldn’t read on my phone like many people do, I only use my actual kindle. But need to really wear my glasses so I don’t need to make the text bigger – means I can get more text to a page that way.

  4. Great idea re: sausage rolls for school lunches. Tasty and convenient to carry in a lunch box. School meals are getting more and more expensive.
Your Goodreads score is so impressive. I only ever buy Kindle books if they are priced at 99p. I also spend a good amount on paper books, so don’t feel bad about not wanting to spend more on e-books. Sometimes, e-books are priced higher than paper ones. I saw Yesteryear the other day on offer at half price, and Kindle version was more expensive.
So lovely that you keep writing line dances.
The issue with the retainer is super annoying.

    1. Yes, Kindle books have to include VAT but physical books don’t. So new books are usually cheaper in supermarkets/on deals in bookshops than the full ebook price. I always wait until they’re on deal.

  5. The homemade sausage rolls sound like a good idea and very yummy too!
You can only advise N what to do with the retainer, I used to tell my eldest to put hers in but she only listened half the time.
hahaha! The only reason I ever drink shots is because the younger generation encourage it. lol
