Cows coming to nosy over the fence

Project 52 2026 week 27

Yet another hot week. We’ve not got a hosepipe ban yet, but most places to the East/South of us have so I expect we’re next. There’s certainly been lots of Thames Water and Severn Water lorries out and about our area. Definitely a quieter week than last week, but it brought work experience for N alongside not great sleeping due to the heat. Here’s my week 27 for Project 52.

Sunday – had to fill up the OH’s vehicle which I rarely drive as we no longer get normal diesel on the farm. It’s very strange sitting so high up, even in comparison to my small SUV. Otherwise it was a fairly relaxing day.

None of us stayed up for the football.

Monday – woke early and checked the football score. Whoop to England managing the unthinkable and beating Mexico at home, at altitude, and half with only 10 men.  N had the start of his work experience going out with our neighbour who’s a carpenter, and does other house/garden jobs. He got hands on in the afternoon and seemed to enjoy it. Always good if they can learn new skills. I had a normal work day.

Tuesday – office day and nice to be in the air con. Pottered around after work until dancing. The big fans were brought out which were needed. But by the end of the 2 hours I was definitely flagging, and had to stand out of the last dance.

Wednesday – another day in the office, making the most of a) air con and b) not having to do school pick up. It was much warmer at home than in the office in town. Did some photo editing from Wimbledon and finished my post.

Thursday – hot working at home. My INR dropped to its lowest level…but I forgot to take my Warfarin on Tuesday, and I think Saturday too. When I’m going straight out to dancing late I always struggle to remember. Didn’t go dancing as it was way too hot. Turns out only 4 people went.

Friday – another hot short working day. Spent a bit of time out in the garden talking to the cows and calves who were very interested in coming over to me. N finished his week’s work experience – it’s been a hot week to be working outside.

I was dancing in the evening at a social. Thankfully air conditioned venue, but it didn’t do much good for me until lots of people had left in the last 20 minutes! I love our car share – we decided who was driving based on aircon quality.

Saturday – into town for some deli/cold tea bits and pieces again. Couldn’t believe that by 9.30 the bakery had no baguettes left! N and his friends wanted to go swimming, so it was a race to get that booked with only 17 spaces left to book. Otherwise, just a day trying to keep cool again. My knee and ankle were both playing up after last night’s dancing which they’ve not done for a while, so that’s a bit frustrating.

  1. We have a hosepipe ban which started last night. Watering the garden with a watering can is going to be such a chore.
N’s work experience sounds interesting. I can’t imagine dancing in the heat that we have had. My fella has been loving the air con at work.
    The cows are so cute!

    1. We don’t have an outdoor tap (major error on whoever designed our house!), so N does his strawberries with a watering can. We don’t bother with the rest and it is looking a bit dry on my wildflower patch/shrubs. We had a ban last year for months, I don’t ever remember seeing it stop although it must have done.
